I've got a big probe in my pocket!

Yep, that's right, I've got a new probe in my pocket. For those who don't know, the thermowand people launched a new therm a while back and I bought one last week on discount. The javelin looks interesting because it's full size like the thermapen. Well it arrive last night and here's my findings.
I made a quick ice bath and put both probes in. Accuracy wise, both are effectively the same. I would even venture to say that the javelin is a hair more accurate as I couldn't seem to get my thermapen to hit 32.0 dead. I didn't do a boiling test because I was too lazy. But let's talk speed. My thermapen might but not be the fastest because it's the standard gray, but it surely has got to be faster. Nope! The javelin was neck to neck with the thermapen, both reached 32 within 3 seconds.
One feature that really amazed me was the temperature hold. Basically if you press and hold the button on the screen and stick it into your food, it will "beep" once the temp has stabilized. The temp will hold as long as your finger is on the button and it will jump back to the normal reading when you release. It's kinda hard to explain so here's a vid of it in action.

So overall impression is it's pretty impressive! How long will the javelin perform in the long run? Only time will tell. But for $46 it's hard to beat.
