Fajitas- cast iron storage

Nothing exciting, fajitas. But hit the spot. Getting more into my cast iron pans. Question though about cast iron care. I got it down on cleaning, got me a little chain mail scrubber, for the nasty stuff. Oiling it a little when storing. But here's the question, how to store an oiled cast iron pan without it collecting dust, dog hair?

I store mine in the stove since I know use the BGE as my stove.

Fajitas looking good mang! When you say oiled just how oiled are we talking? It shouldn't be saturated just ever so lightly coated almost dry if you will. I store mine in a few spots. I have a few in the cupboard and 2 large pieces in the oven. Wipe off just before using them and you should be A okay.

If it's long term storage, you can get thicker oils that won't go rancid. The just wipe off when you are about to use it. I keep mine with the rest of my pots and pans in the cabinet next to the stove.

I am using very little oil, wipe it on and wipe it mostly off. I like the idea of the oven also. Spray a small amount of Pam on a paper towel, and coat pan lightly. Oil should barely be visible. You will add fat before the next cook. The ones I use, get hung in the kitchen. Plan on hanging a couple extras on the wall with 16 penny nails.....pretty cool display for the older rehab'd stuff.

I think if you have dog hair on the pan you are not cooking it at high enough heat.

+1 for lightly oiling the CI. I store mine with other kitchen pans, maybe in the egg. What about a plastic storage container?Coleman, Texas
Large BGE & Mini Max for the wok. A few old camp Dutch ovens and a wood fired oven. LSG 24” cabinet offset smoker. There are a few paella pans and a Patagonia cross in the barn. A curing chamber for bacterial transformation of meats...

If dust is a problem just have your wife clean the house more often!

One simple option for storing the cast iron is to put it in plastic grocery bags, either disposable or non-disposable. I do that for some that I keep in the garage to keep the grundge off. The air circulates so it won't promote rust but it keeps the dust to a minimum. Just covering it with a kitchen towel works indoors.

I found this sturdy rack in a thrift store and almost couldn't get my wallet out fast enough. I have about 20 pieces of cast and like you, needed a way to store it. This allows for easy access and doubles for a wine rack ( on bottom). It was a lucky find and relatively inexpensive. Keep your eyes open, you may find something when you least expect it.

I've got a bunch as well and have it in 3 dedicated cabinets, and this does a great job at keeping dust from sticking to the oiled coating.
That said...
I'm kind of partial to the idea of having it out, like @northGAcock . I've developed an affinity for my cast iron and wouldn't mind having it on display. I'm considering making either a hanging pot rack for over my island, or a wall rack.
