1 cup distilled white vinegar
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon caraway seed
1 pinch ground cloves
1 large head red cabbage, shredded (about 2 pounds)1. In a 4-5 quart Dutch oven, stir together vinegar, sugar, salt, caraway seed, and ground cloves. Add cabbage and bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
2. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer, stirring occasionally, 35 to 40 minutes, or until the cabbage is very tender and most of the liquid has evaporated.
Best with red cabbage, but normal green will work. Sometimes add apple slices halfway through.

In cooking, often we implement steps for which we have no explanations other than ‘that’s what everybody else does’ or ‘that’s what I have been told.’ Dare to think for yourself. -
Open bottom vent all the way. Remove daisy wheel. When Temp hits 1200 place cabbage directly in fire, cave man style. In about 7 minutes both the cabbage and the odor should be gone.

About a 2 hour cook and to qualify this, I haven't tried this recipe yet. You can probably speed up the cook with a higher temp:
1. Core the cabbage, reserve the core because you'll need to reseal the core.
2. 2 cubes of beef bullion, in the hole.
3. Fill remainder of the hole with butter that has been creamed with salt and pepper.
4. Cut the core top off and reseal.
5. Wrap generously with foil and grill over indirect heat for approximately 1-1.5 hour. for slightly underdone cabbage, 1.5-2 hours for done.

You got me thinking. What about quartering your cabage(s), charring them before cooking a big bunch of beef/chicken. Then use it to make "smoked slaw" of your choice. I think I'll try it. Probably been done before but I haven't seen if so. Good luck.Sandy Springs & Dawsonville Ga

How about cabbage steaks? http://www.bakingoutsidethebox.com/cabbage-steaks-recipe-grilled-baked/Coleman, Texas
Large BGE & Mini Max for the wok. A few old camp Dutch ovens and a wood fired oven. LSG 24” cabinet offset smoker. There are a few paella pans and a Patagonia cross in the barn. A curing chamber for bacterial transformation of meats...
"Bourbon slushies. Sure you can cook on the BGE without them, but why would you?"

Thanks for all the suggestions! I just cored it out and put butter garlic and Allegro in it....wrapped it in foil and left the top open about to put on the egg in a few mins! Will post pics.
