mini egg

I haven't ever bought or used a BGE before. I will probably buy a large, but have been thinking about the "mini" for tailgating, camping, etc. Nobody here talks about a mini, so I'm wondering if that's a bad idea.

swpinspokane,[p]A mini is a great addition to a larger egg. For portability it can not be beat. My mini definitely makes the best steaks when compared to my other 3 eggs (own a mini, small, medium, and large). The coals are the closest to the food on the mini so you can get a very nice char when you want it. Very economical on the charcoal too.[p]Spin
  • swpinspokane,
Look in the archives while you are deciding. There have been a lot of previous discussions about what and how much one can do on a mini.
We have a large and a mini. Rarely, I wish for a small, but not often.

swpinspokane,[p]In addition to the previous comments, the mini fits into a milk crate with very small modifications for additional ease and portability. Inverted, it acts as a stand (I also use a paving stone to deflect heat when cooking).[p]Smokey

swpinspokane,[p]I love my Mini. We use it up at the cabin. I've even brought it to work for a lunch (pork tenderloins). Saturday I used it in addition to my large and small for a special order of chicken breasts that I couldn't fit on with the hamburgers, dogs and bacon wrapped scallops the other eggs were occupied with. And yes, it make a mean steak.[p]It is a little more limited in it's use when compared to a small but the portability evens the score in my opinion.[p]RE

<p />swpinspokane,[p]The mini is a grilling machine for two people... and the best steaks I ever ate were cooked on the mini by our Dizzy Pig fella BBQFan1.[p]This photo is of my mini's maiden cook.[p]If you want a little more space and versatility for tailgating and camping, the small bge is a manageable weight and you can do low and slows on it.... however, I wouldn't trade the mini in for anything, tho.
