How to secure the Mini / deter theft from the backyard?

Take the guts out of a used gasser and use that as a place for your mini - you can store it and cook on it in there and it will be totally camoflaged and firesafe. Nobody will give a 15 year old gas grill a second look.THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER

Bought a braided cable and lock, used it once. Even that won't stop a couple of idiots with boltcutters. Now I just leave it in the back of the truck unstrapped, and it goes with me around the campground visiting, fishing, in to town, etc. For the summer months, the small and Pelican take residence in the truck bed while garaged. Take it down by the lock and damn picnic area on occasion. Nice to change up the scenery. Let it sit in the back on main street in Kewanee, IL all day while at the annual car show. So far, so good.
Had some wisea$$es make comments about "lifting" it once, but they were the regular campground drunks....completely harmless. But more and more idiots know of ceramic, and its value.

keep a fire lit 24/7, that'll keep hands off of it.THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER

This looks like it would work. Just substitute your egg for the glass of water.

if things are getting stolen from your backyard, its probably a neighbor, catch the neighbor, video him in the act, then blackmail him. worked in my neighborhood

I had a dog. He would bark really loud when someone was at the door but never would hurt anyone. He only growled at 2 people his whole life. I put up a couple of "Beware of Dog" and "No Trespassing" signs in the yard just in case. As soon as I put those signs up, almost nobody comes to the house anymore. The regular UPS and FedEx guys will come up to the house but when there's a new driver, they leave the package at the end of the driveway. Only REALLY pushy salesmen come up to the house, most sit in their truck and honk, very few actually come to the door. The dog passed away 2 years ago but the signs are still up and doing a good job.

The one thing that has not been addressed in any response is the unprepared thief who finds the egg cabled someway is just as liable to then throw it to the ground to break it as he is p*ssed! Its a loss either way. I'm in the group that says take it out of sight or inside your garage after it has cooled.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

Bringing a charcoal grill inside is not a good idea, even if you think the fire is out. I guess its okay if it's a detached garage, but...

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

@Carolina Q is right about bringing it in and making sure the fire is out. I take it you are worried about it when you are not at home, but away for the day at work or something? If it hasn't been used in a day or so bring it in, you could cable it down, but like others have said a pair of bolt cutters and its theirs. we live on a cul de sac and back up to some woods and haven't really worried about it, but my 6 year old son does. We all look out for each other in our neighborhood, but the worst thing lately is kids egging our neighbors house while they were on vacation. My other neighbor and I washed it of for them so they didn't have to come home.Carolina Q said:Bringing a charcoal grill inside is not a good idea, even if you think the fire is out. Try to hide it best you can is what I say, if they want it, they will take it.
I came back from a work trip years ago after only being gone a week and my 92 Jeep Cherokee was stolen from what was supposed to be a secured parking garage. I got it back that day, but had about about $800 in damages and some things stolen out of it, like the CD changer, a camera and glasses. They were planning on taking the wheels I think, because I found concrete blocks in the back seat.
Good luck.XL, WSM, Coleman Road Trip Gas GrillKansas City, Mo. -
I would just put a small, tactical nuke under it and link that up to a pressure switch on the base. Sure, you'll blow up your whole subdivision, but the thief sure will be sorry!

Oh dear, all this time I've put my Large egg with table, and small into my attached garage after the fire is snuffed. Guess I should remove my gas oven and range too? You should see how much PPM your oven and burner on low put out when you start it up. Holy smokes. Common sense, it saves lives......oh, and CO/smoke detectors.BrandonQuad Cities

I'm curious if you have ever heard of this actually happening?

should have checked the surveillance camera at the HD returns deskSmyrnaGA said:It's sad, but, my dad's house had a bicycle (locked) with a dog in the yard and it still got stolen. Bicycle, not the dog. 2 kayaks were also stolen a few years later. It's out of sight & locked.
There is a Home Depot a mile away, so they must have gotten a bolt cutter there...

IMO the problem isn't a good vs bad neighborhood, all you need is one neighbor/neighbors kid addicted to pain meds/heroin looking for something to sell for a quick fix... Addiction is everywhere in the country and is making people do some stupid/crazy things... Just my $0.2

we need to get the word out that resale on a BGE is horrible d/t warranty rules, they should look for those red and black ones

Dig a 8 foot deep trench with pungy stakes on the bottom around it. Realistically I'd say the cable would be your best option to atleast deter it. Yes they might come back with bolt cutters later but you never know. Could also install a motion activated light that would light it up if someone came up to it at night.Dyersburg, TN
