Injured egg!

So I'm grilling some steaks last night and I opened the lid and the dome basically fell out of the round metal brace. Has anyone had this happen? I assume I need to replace the metal piece which looks connected to the bottom piece and the spring system in the back. Just curious why it would happen and at the time I had the egg maxed out for about 30 mins so I could get a good sear. Could that heat for that long have caused the metal piece to buckle?

Hear causes expansion of the metal. How long has it been since you checked your bands for proper tension by the bolts being torqued correctly?

+1 with @ DaveRichardson  .. make sure when you tighten the band bolts that they bend.

I don't know how new your egg is but many times when you get them from the dealers or from an eggfest they are not tightened down enough. It can also happen just in the installation moving into whatever its resting place is.Keep a  seven sixteenths and a half inch box wrench handy (especially if you do a lot of high heat cooks) youll want to check it occasionally. Once it's been on a while it seems to do it less!

You're also going to want to check your dome alignment once you get it resecured to make sure you don't have gaps which will of course lead to gasket failure!

Sorry for the problem that's a bummer!!
I spent most of my money on good bourbon, and bad women...the rest, I just wasted!!
