Cooking pizza on the XL

I am planning to buy the pizza stone for my XL and just noticed the BGE stone is 21" diameter which is 3" wider than the deflector on the XL platesetter. Would an 18" pizza stone work better by allowing for more air circulation than the 21" stone?

I have a large but I suspect you don't want to exceed the diameter of the platesetter. At high pizza temps you'l get flames on the sides.New Albany, Ohio

Also take notice on the thicknes of the stone, i noticed that most non BGE stones are cheaper but very thin.BGE MiniMax Rocks!

I have XL but bought the lg BGE pizza stone. High in the dome the xl stone is too large.

Any stone size that allows you to elevate above the grid will work as long as you allow the stone to heat soak a good long time. I turn a Woo upside down to raise the stone. IMHO high in the dome is crucial to good pizza.

CGS has a 17.5" ceramic stone for indirect cooks. Is there a difference or could this serve as a pizza stone?Basking Ridge, NJ - XL with KAB

I bought the large BGE stone from my XL egg. Been using it for years and it's the perfect size.Packerland, Wisconsin

There are several ways to make pizza on the BGE, find one that works for you and dial it in.
