Any CT Eggheads out there?

Brand new to this.  Got a large egg a few weeks back, and have been enjoying the learning curve.  This is my first time cooking with charcoal (outside of the few camping trips I've been on).  I have a nice weber gas grill that I have been using to grill the standards on and do some slow-cooked ribs on with decent success.  I've had a weber for 15+ years, and just got the current one two years ago.

There isn't much of a BBQ "scene" around here, and would love to hear about some local shops to check out for rubs, equipment, etc.

Thanks.

The Spice Mill is in Manchester. Good selection there. http://www.espicemill.com  Penzey's has a store in West Hartford Center. Grocery stores around here sell McCormick's and Sweet Baby Rays. Hard time even finding ancho powder. I actually saw a packer brisket here... once. CT don't do much Q.

OTOH, Wicked Good lump warehouse is in Holyoke so you can get a deal on some good lump, even if you do have to spend a couple hundred to do it. Comes out to about $13-14 per 22 lb bag.

Great Asian market in West Hartford called A Dong (really) on Shield St. Also, a decent Indian market (Patel Foods) on Spencer St in Manchester.

    What town are you in?

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Well, "spa-Peggy" is kind of like spaghetti. I'm not sure what Peggy does different, if anything. But it's the one dish she's kind of made her own.

I live in the southeastern corner, and as said above real BBQ doesn't seem to have a huge presence in the state. Chester's BBQ in Groton puts out a good product and worth a stop if you're in the area.

Didn't know about the Penzey's store in WHFD, will have to check it out.

Penzey's is on LaSalle Rd in W Hfd Center. On your way, stop in at The Spice Mill, Adams St, Manchester. Not as upscale as Penzey's, but really, the only thing I don't like about them is their plastic bottles.

Just up the road is Logan Steel (Meriden). They sell cutoffs and scrap steel for $1/lb. Bargain Barn... http://logansteel.com/?page_id=365

1/4" steel plate makes a GREAT pizza "stone" for under $15. Better than a stone stone. At <1/4 the cost!

I am in Norwalk. We do have a Penzey's here. And a good Indian market. Poor selection of butcher offerings at any reasonable prices, though. Costco is the best bet for a balance of quality vs pricing. But they never have full packer brisket nor any primal cuts available.(time for a Restaurant Depot Membership I think() Still have not found a good selection of BBQ items for gear/rubs, etc. But online offerings come quickly and priced right. I try lots of stuff I read about on this Forum.

Forgot to mention, I did stumble on this place a couple of weeks ago... http://www.avonprimemeats.com/beef.html

It apparently used to be The Meat House.

I'll never go though. Their name alone (Avon + prime) tells me they're gonna want more than I'm gonna spend! But I'm sure it's great stuff.
