30 minute meals on the Egg

I was discussing the BGE thing with a buddy of mine on Sunday.  He is building a beautiful Brick Oven to make pizza's in.  It will be a nice addition to his back yard.

He commented the reason he never got into charcoal cooking, and thus the BGE, is that it takes so long to get it ready after work.  Never mind that his pizza oven will take twice as long to get ready, that is another story.

I wanted to see how long a simple evening meal really takes.  Tonight, I made Kielbasa and pierogies, all on the egg.  I got home at 5:30 and we were eating at 6:05.  Not too bad considering the Captain and Diet Coke was really tasting good.

    @pgprescott would have to help with the Chicken George. That's a Sterling staple. I actually carry the "Jan's sauce" recipe in my wallet, just in case!

    How are you familiar with Sterling, @bcsnave ?

  • I can do burgers in 30 minutes. I probably do that and boneless chicken breasts the most when Im in a hurry.

    Then you wouldn't recognize that area of RF now.  They are really making that riverfront area nice.  A new Holiday Inn is being built along the river.

    I miss those old factories.  Too many have left this town.  In 1991 / 1992, there was more builder's hardware produced in Sterling / Rock Falls than anywhere else in the world.  Now, Shanghai holds that distinction and there is none produced here.

    Sad.

    But, at least you get to drink great local beer now!

    We were out in Clinton Iowa and came back through sterling and stopped at Candlelight about 3 weeks ago

    My doctor, who is probably a customer of yours, is very upset that you have shown me that sauce.  I have been eating it on everything.  Steak, poultry, pork, ice cream...

    Good point.  Tomorrow, I am going to do Burgers.  I will be in more of a relaxed mode, but you are right, they could get done quickly.  Maybe I will smoke some beans to go with them...

  • I usually start my egg and make the patties while its getting started. Then I give it another ten minutes to let the grid get hot and temp stable.

    That's it!  Now that they have a place in Clinton, I think I am going to have to have Chicken George for lunch this week.  Dang.

    The place in Clinton is on the river..with a nautical theme...just isn't the same. That's why we drove over to Sterling...can't beat a classic.
