Thanks!  My father just asked for one of these for Christmas.  Great deal!
  • And just pulled the trigger.  My wife said to order Blue, but as we know Red is the fastest so had to order that, duh.

the CDN ProAccurate Thermocouple pen is always about seventy something bucks.   Same capability, speed and such.

@tjv Thanks for the read.  It seems to be as fast as the Thermapen, cheaper, backlit readout, and has a 5 year limited warranty.  It would be interesting to see a side by side video against one another

Never heard of that one so I looked for info. These guys have a vested interest of course, but...

If my T-pen ever dies, I'll probably just get a Pop.

The Thermapen smokes the CDN ProAccurate in that video.  Ouch

CDN says response time is 6-8 seconds. Thermoworks says Thermapen response time is 3 seconds.

Amazon claims 3 seconds.  Has anyone tried one in person?

@WeberWho? Which one are you asking about? I've got 2 Thermapens and have used it for years. Works awesome.

    Directly from the CDN website:

"CDN's ProAccurate® Quick-Read™ pocket thermometers use thermistor sensors with new and innovative technology. The sensor is located in the tip. When inserted only one fourth of an inch, it will provide an unusually accurate and stable response in 6-8 seconds."

Confusion comes because CDN also uses the ProAccurate label on their thermocouple sensor thermometers which they claim a 3-6 second response time.

I had multiple thermapens over the years.  I am not saying CDN is better. I am saying I don't think the thermapen is any faster.

see if I can get my video up here.  All I did was open the thermapen which was stored in the room.

I've got a bunch of Thermoworks stuff (including a couple Thermopens) but I bought one of these out of curiosity a few months ago and was pretty impressed with it. Seems just as capable as my Thermopens and is a bargain at only $25:

Thanks for the heads up - lost mine a year ago and been cooking by 'touch'.  I've gotten good at it, but this will make it foolproof.

@Toxarchthanks for info. I've owned my Thermapen for the last 5 years and it's been awesome. One of the best tools you can own for the egg or in the kitchen in general. I'm intrigued on the performance between the two as the CDN ProAccurate is cheaper, backlit, temperature reading times are somewhat similar (depending where you read), and has 4 more years of the limited lifetime warranty. That has me looking for more information about the product.  Would I buy one? Probably not at this point but they might be onto something!
