    i do not put in enough oil to make it drippy and giving it a week to evenly saterate all the towels stacked, seems they are more dry than oily. ive had to add a little oil 6 months in but use less than you think is necessary. you can do this in a ziplock for smaller amounts but i like the looks of the cofee can on the shelf at camp in the living room =)

    I've always avoided the paper towel/oil method as it sounded messy, but @fishlessman's method looks worth trying, thanks!

    @fishlessman, the day after you posted the above pics, I tried your technique with the paper towels..well kinda. No rock and only sat for a few hours. What a difference as far as the mess. I rolled up about six paper towels and put in a ziplock container with a little oil before we went to the mountains. The oil was well absorbed without the drippy mess I usually deal with. I'll probably stick with this method for a while now. Thanks for posting your method. 

    @Ladeback69, you definitely should give the paper towels a try. I started with the BGE starters when I first got my egg. Didn't like the price, but mostly had a hard time lighting them in the wind. Once lit they worked great though. I used a chimney for quite a while before using the paper towels. So far, I've been able to block the wind long enough to start the paper towels and shut the lid without them going out. Once lit, they burn just like a candle. I don't recommend my method of dipping in the oil like I listed originally. Use a technique similar to what @fishlessman uses so the oil gets absorbed without dripping.
