is there a difference between the cast iron cap versus the stainless steel cap?

If your talking about the 'Smokeware' version ... they both do the exact same job, control the temp. So, no.I've slow smoked and eaten so much pork, I'm legally recognized as being part swine - Chatsworth Ca.

I like the stainless topper smoke ware version because I do not have my egg under a cover so I can cook in the raid and water doesn't get in the egg

Love my smokeware chimney. Bon rain gets in, closing it completely will kill a fire without changing for a rain cap, and there seems to be more adjustment.

@SoCalTim doesn't need to worry about rain... I like mine for when it is raining, but other than that I still use the cast iron.They/Them

I think there's a HUGE difference. I just bought Smokeware caps for my two Eggs (Medium and Large), and (1) I don't have to worry about rain going in the daisy wheel openings during a cook, (2) I can leave them open 24/7 so air can flow through the eggs and avoid the mold problem I've had if I didn't use them for a while, and (3) they don't rust, and I've had huge rust issues with the daisy wheels. I think the Big Green Egg company should buy Smokeware and make their caps the default.

Not quite, the SS cap provides rain protection. Sorry to pile onSoCalTim said:If your talking about the 'Smokeware' version ... they both do the exact same job, control the temp. So, no.

I find the rain keeps the food moist.

@Eggcelsior .. I have no idea what rain is, we're right smack dab in the middle of a severe drought here in California.I've slow smoked and eaten so much pork, I'm legally recognized as being part swine - Chatsworth Ca.

With the smokeware cap, you can open and close the lid without worrying if it moved, unlike the daisy wheel.GWN

@nanook if you position the Daisy wheel like a pendulum it doesn't move. Ever.I've slow smoked and eaten so much pork, I'm legally recognized as being part swine - Chatsworth Ca.

@SoCalTim. I have Smokeware caps on both Eggs. Problem solved.GWN

I love ;it on my Large.
Just hope they come out with one that will fit my Kamado Joe, Jr.John in the Willamette Valley of Oregon -
Just looked up this topic. I have had my Egg for a year now using the Smokeware SS top. On my most recent slow cook of a pork shoulder I decided to use the BGE Daisy wheel. Not sure but it seems to me that it holds the temperature more steady than the SS topper. Anyone else notice this?

At my brother's cooking a brisket. He has KJ classic and a Mini BGE.
But no Smokeware cap yet.lol

I think the Smokeware cap might be a little more prone to wind affecting the temp.Outdoorsman66 said:Just looked up this topic. I have had my Egg for a year now using the Smokeware SS top. Besides that I no issues holding temps with mine.Thank you,DarianGalveston Texas -
Wind. Interesting. I'll have to pay more attention to that and see. I could still swear the daisy wheel is holding a more consistent temp. Watching it now as I write.Photo Egg said:

Love my smokewear cap. Got mine before they laser etched their logo onto them, and just found a nearby place that will laser etch anything that's metal!!!!
