Egged a 5lb free range chicken tonight.
Rubbed  with Plowboys yardbird, and  DP Swamp Venom. Got rub up under skin also.
Cooked at 400 raised direct, served with toasted Asian sesame  slaw, and steamed carrots, broccoli, and peas with butter.
Cooked spine and popes nose as chef treat as per usual.
Happy National  Egg  Day!

Good looking cook ... as always!

We must have had the same brain storm today.  I also did a spatchcocked chicken.  So, first laugh was when I cut my bird and second laugh was when I saw your "pope's nose" on the grill.  The things you've taught me!

Looks awesome. Do you ever have to flip a raised direct bird? I've only done indirect on my turkeys and chickens

@tisoypops,yes, I flipped last ten minutes of cook to super  crisp the skin, it worked with one little char spot. @Jeepster47 , thanks for the laugh, yes great minds were aligned today for sure!!lol Enjoy your chicken as well. Thanks @logchief , waving a hand man.

Looks good man. I've never done that as my treat. However, I've fried up the giblets for a treat before. For a good gravy I'll use the neck, giblets, backbone (if removed for a Spatched bird)  and anything else worth using.
