not a North vs. South question...you like cold buns or HOT BUNS?

I don't know if this is a regional thing, or just a personal preference, but I like to melt some butter and brush it on the bun, then get some good grill marks.

if your going to put butter on it theres another great option, melt the butter and brush the outside of the bun, sprinkle a cayenne rub to the outside and then bake it on in the egg, adds another flavor dimension. i really like that on hotdog buns
fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it -
South but realize that is not what you are referencing- I prefer mine dry toasted on the grill. I will say from a bread perspective, we prefer a fresh soft bread in the south for our burgers. We don't do crusty down here......at least not for burgers.Ellijay GA with a Medium & MiniMax

WEST COAST - we toast our buns in this house. I even prefer sandwich bread toasted.

I typically go toasted, but decided to go the steamed "concession stand" style this weekend with some hotdogs with the kids. Grilled like usual, plopped them into some el-cheapo buns and wrapped in foil and back on the egg for a few minutes to get things steamy.
Kids said they were better than the stadium dogs we had at a Brave's game the day before! I'd call that a win!LBGE since 2014

How is this a north vs south issue?
It seems from the posts here that people seem to think south=toasted and north=not toasted (am I right about this?). Not only have I never heard this before... But one of the staple food of New England, the lobster roll, is always served on a toasted (and buttered) bun. Also, I've never been to a cookout up here where there weren't buns toasting up on the grill
Not trolling or trying to start a North vs South flame war.... Just legitimately surprised people think this has a geographical component to the matter.

you have it right, toasted/grilled bulkies and butter/grilled split tops in newengland, the rest of the country eats those stupid potato buns and rolls. and the rest of the country eats that orange puke cheese tooChillyWillis said:How is this a north vs south issue?

It was not meant to be - please re-read the title of the thread - while the subject is about hamburger buns it was meant as a humorous bi-play on your butt! aka your buns.ChillyWillis said:How is this a north vs south issue?
small case letters implying weather in the North so "cold buns" vs
CAPITAL LETTERS implying heat in the South so "HOT BUNS".
I never intended to start another civil war! OK?Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time -

Are you implying that we up here in the north do not have good looking hind parts?!? ARE YOU SAYING THERE ARE NO HOT BUNS IN THE NORTH?!?
I demand a duel good sir. -
Also, it's about 78 up here currently.... I'd imagine buns all around the good ol' USA are rather temperate at the moment.
Now as for those in New Zealand..... -
ron, we learned our lesson at valley forge, theres no food down there we eat, apparantly theres still no foodRRP said:
