Smokeware Cap

I read in a previous post that guy's are able to shut down their eggs with the SW cap. Mine has an opening no matter which way I turn it. Are you all's different than mine. With two of the holes covered, this much remains open. What say you? Sorry about the picture quality, cell phone pic.

All 3 of my slots are the same size so I'm not sure why yours is so different. You might want to call the company as something is not right that's for sure!

Looks like a defective unit for sure. All slots should be the same length, and thus result in the same opening all around. Contact the guys at smokeware for sure!

Its ok for shutdowns I don't think highly of it for that purpose. Usually use the ceramic.

Thanks guys. I 've sent them an email. Skinny,  my main concern is not being able to make small adjustments.

Just noticed that the new slot design and the lid are both on their web page now.

I checked their web site and don't see the lid listed.  Are you talking about the lid that you put inside the cap when shutting down?

Guess I've got to learn to call it a "flat cap."

@jeepster47 thanks for the URL. When I did a Google search for "smokeware" it found smokeware.net which, apparently, is an old web site of theirs and does not list the flat lid.  If I manually go to smokeware.com, it shows the new product.

Question, just started using the somkeware cap and getting all sorts of brown gunk dripping down the egg now.  Is this normal with the smokeware?  Did not have it with my daisywheel.

My smokeware cap gets all gunked up inside the cap and I clean it from time to time.  Once in a great while some will drip down the egg but this happened a lot more with the daisy wheel.

I'm only too sure the smokeware cap is pretty awesome, But I'm sticking with the original daisy wheel - I've finally got it mastered. If it ain't broke ... etc

I'm sticking with the original too.  Tim, you're in SoCal so you're not going to have rain and bbqing coincide .  If you want to stick with the near perfect BGE setup but block the rain, www.perfectbbqtek.com can help.

Late to this thread, but agree you may have a bad one for some reason.

I love my smokeware cap.  It dumped rain here yesterday in Austin and I had zero issues, true set and forget.  I don't have any issue putting the fire out with mine, just dial it closed and it seals pretty well.

@EggPerfection, I've seen you post that a couple of times.  Are you selling many of them? I never saw one before you posted.  Is that the only product right now?  Are you planning others?

I wish I could say that my mind was overflowing with Kamado accessory ideas.  I'm just enjoying the selling of these now, talking about using my Egg and BBQing in general.  We'll see what comes.

An earlier version of our chimney cap was stainless but it didn't flex right and looked clumsy.  That version can be seen in the video.  It just wasn't the right metal for our application so we used 5052 grade aluminum which is used extensively in kitchens and industrial chimney caps.  Light (to protect the Egg) and strong enough to deflect precipitation when needed.

Choose the one you want or none at all and let's be happy that we have so much choice here.

I did not know it was your product that you were promoting.
Now that I know, from a value stand point, the aluminum piece, to me, is over priced. Like all products, time will tell if your rain cap is worth the money you are asking. Competition is good and I wish you lots of sales.
