I think this is what he meant by dry burn. I hope anyways.aukerns08 said:
A clean burn at 750 degrees plus will kill off anything that could be in there... Used grills are just already seasoned in my view.Caymanite said:I would go with the KJ as it has everything you need. I don't like the idea of buying a used grill, just kind of gross but that's just me. -
@aukerns08 @SmokeyPitt I stand 1/2 corrected I suppose. Apologies but I've never heard of a Costco Road Show in Toronto. Would like to hear more about those.

Weekly shows with Kamado reps where you can buy a grill at a good discount. I believe you also get a cover and some lump included. It's a great deal, and you get the lifetime warranty from Joe, as well as the ability to return it anytime to Costco. -
One thing I would look at is the fire ring to see if it has notches in it. If it doesn't, you might ask if you can get the updated ring with the notches. My eggs are from 2010 before they changed it. I think they would be nice because the grid sits down in the egg a couple of inches giving you more room vertically.aukerns08 said:
Without knowing the specifics of this Egg I can only speculate as to why he's replacing his demo. The most popular reason I can think of is BGE will make slight changes and modifications to the models over time, different handle material, or design, etc. Mostly it's not noticeable but the dealers like to cook on the most updated to help them sell. They also like to cut deals to new Egg customers to get them in the game so the demo lets them do that and gives the customer the warranty since the dealer never sold it. In this particular case since he's giving you a new base with it, the base sounds cracked (happens from normal use sometimes) so he had to replace it anyways, so he can sell it for a discount, warranty the base and get a shiny new demo for his class and demo cooks. He wins and you win.ineggscape said:
LOL trust me i would be but it is not ready yet. He ordered a new demo and it is coming within the next week. Not even sure why he is replacing it, he just said he was thinking about doing it, and wanted to sell me an egg so he offered it to me.henapple said:My only question is why are online right now? I'd be at the dealer.
Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg. -
This is how I would travel with my large in my wife's car. I take out the inner ceramics to make the base lighter. Set the dome off to the side for the time being. Remove the band from the base and keep it in the closed position. I use zip ties to tie the band shut to keep it from opening up. It's easier to transport with the band closed and can be tricky to shut the band once it's been opened. I then go place the base in the front or rear seat. Once you place the base in a seat you can go put the inner ceramics back in the base. I then lay a blanket over the base and flip the dome over to lay in the base. (Make sure you take out the thermometer) It's really kind of basic. I do it 4-5 times a year and haven't had any issues transporting it. The pic above just shows how it would look like in a seat. You can buckle it in or surround it with other objects. Might be worth saving the $50 in shippingWeberWho? said:
If you have the space in your car or truck moving the egg is no issue. All I do is remove the dome from the band and take the inner ceramics out. Really no biggie to move. I'm taking my large apart tonight to use this weekend. I'll snap a few pics of it in the front seat and how I do it. Save the $50 and buy a daisy wheel and ceramic top with itineggscape said:
He is about 30 miles. We have some in town but not with the same deal and he just seemed to have more knowledge. When I called he just went on and on about the eggs, in comparison the other places put me on hold and came back with a price. Not saying they are bad, just a phone call, but it can make a difference.Ladeback69 said:
How close is your Egg dealer and what other services do they offer? Do they have rubs, sauces, lump, wood and and able to give you cooking tips? That's what also helped me decide on BGE. The nearest KJ dealer was and hour away and my Egg dealer was 5 minutes. They delivered it to my house and placed it on my patio. They also have cooking classed and a weekly radio show for an hour on Friday from noon to one to talk about BBQ and food. Sounds like the dealer selling the egg is giving you a lot for you money.ineggscape said:
He he does offer seasonings from dizzy pig, meat church, and caribeque. I have heard good things about dizzy pig, not sure on the other two. I believe he does cooking classes (might be what this egg was used for not sure) but not a radio show that I know of.
Delivery is about $50 because of the distance. I wish that was free because that's my biggest fear is moving the thing."The pig is an amazing animal. You feed a pig an apple and it makes bacon. Let's see Michael Phelps do that" - Jim Gaffigan

Not sure what Costco does up in Canada but they have road shows with different manufacturers and all kinds of different products from time to time here. The Costco near me even has a boat dealer come in once a year selling boats, not sure what the deal is but Costco is doing something to sweeten the pot for it's members buying boats. The benefit of the road show on the KJ is you get the warranty from KJ but you get the added money back guarantee from Costco. Most Costco products, other than electronics can be returned at anytime, even years down the road. So if KJ pisses you off with how they handle the warranty take the busted Joe back how it is, without the box I might add, get your money back and buy an Egg or whatever you want. When I worked at Costco we'd get all kinds of crazy stuff back that had "broke," one time we returned a dead tree bought during one of the lawn and garden shows 3 years prior that the member dug up after it died and got a full refund. Can't really beat Costco in my mind, just save those receipts to make it easy on yourself.gabriegger said:@aukerns08 @SmokeyPitt I stand 1/2 corrected I suppose. Don't even need the receipt. Just roughly when you bought it and what its called. They have always just used my membership card to pull up receipts.

@aukerns08 Costco does nothing like that around here. They simply open the doors and accept your money. However I do like the no questions asked return policy with receipts. Thanks for the info as now I see a 'roadshow' is simply a demo day on their lot.
