Paella pan as drip pan

son in law @GuitarEC made pork butts this weekend - on one he used a big green egg rectangular pan with apple cider in it as a drip pan. On second cook he took a BGE employee suggestion and tried the SS Paella pan as a liq holder/drip pan. He resisted foiling the drip pans on account of wanting to put the liquid in them
BTW, in both cases he was using 1/4" copper T's separating the pans from the platesetter in a ps woo.
Anyway, he says the grunge in both drip vessels is awful.
i know many of you use no liquid baths under your pork butts but I can't argue with the boys results..
Is the cleanup secret to foil the pans and pour liquid on the HDAF or to stop using liquid period?
( he thought he couldn't get 1 sheet of HDAF to cover whole drip pan so liquid would seep between foil and pan.)
so all this could be a dumb question but. Ya know there are no stupid questions, only stupid people. Lol

That's cool you and SIL have egging in common.
If that's what he wants to do, couldn't he just get wider HDAF?
I don't pretend to know what's best, but it seems most guys here don't use liquid during a cook.Phoenix -
It is great he enjoys egging but he keeps "borrowing" the cyberq. :-)
small price to pay for incredible pulled pork.. I'm good with baby backs but haven't tackled a pork butt yet.
i agree on the extra wide HDAF, but I'm gonna lobby for no liquid next time with a sheet of HDAF for drips only.LBGE, AR. Lives in N.E. ATL -
Well, at least you know what to buy him for Christmas.
I was under the impression that a pork but was less tricky than ribs.Phoenix -
I like disposable foil pans better than wrapping other pans in foil. My experience with foil wrapped is that you have to wait for it to cool and then get rid of the nasty liquid and the greasy aluminum foil covered in congealed fat. It's just easier to use aluminum disposable lasagna pans that go 10 for 6 bucks at the warehouse store.

Good thought NC. Not sure why we didn't think of that. Well he scored a SS PAella pan outta the deal. if he doesn't make paella, he can pan for gold..LBGE, AR. Lives in N.E. ATL
