DigiQ - is it worth it

I'd love to get your thoughts on a DigiQ. I do a fair amount of low slow cooks and I'm thinking of investing. Let me know if you think it's worth the $300 odd bucks. Thanks

I'd try a TTT (Tip Top Temp) first. They're only about $30 and there's a bit of a learning curve to use it. But, once you get the hang of it, it'll hold your temp all day long + or - a few degrees.

Does the TTT fit well on the Large BGE?

When I purchased my XL I bought the DigiQ at the same time. I think it is worth it for low and slows.

I don't know. I use my TTT on a KEG. The one to ask is RRP in this thread: http://eggheadforum.com/discussion/1180249/maiden-voyage-for-my-ttt/p1EggHead_Bubba said:Does the TTT fit well on the Large BGE?

@78 T140E... Thanks, I found that thread and asked there.

I use a DigiQ to control the pit temp and monitor meat IT on low-n-slow cooks. At the same time, I also use a Maverick to monitor the pit temp while doing other things around the house. Those two in combination allow a high degree of peace of mind.
If the DigiQ died tomorrow, the only decision would be whether to replace it or upgrade to a wifi unit that would combine the DigiQ and Maverick into one unit.

Is it worth it? Yes.LBGE (still waitin' for my free T-Shirt), DIgiQ DX2 (In Blue, cause it's the fastest), Heavy Duty Kick Ash Basket, Mc Farland, WI.

If it wasn't for my BGE I'd have no use for my backyard... -
NO........ Not worth it. Had one and sold it. Got a Party Q and gave it away. Just not a fan.Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Just given a Mini to add to the herd.

I absolutely love mine. It has never failed me during a L&S. Only thing I would want is to be able to monitor via my phone or iPad. -
I use mine only when I'm going away during the cook like to work. Also for overnights so I can have some comfort while sleeping. I prefer to get up early for all day L & S and rarely cook while at work. I don't use mine much. You can live without it.Flint, Michigan

It is a personal "Peace of Mind" thing, the egg keeps temperature great on its own. But any controller ensures the flame won't go out. For the money DigiQ is well worth it.

The Dude..a Mini and a Large Egg..a DigiQ DX (BGE Green)..some Cast Iron...a Thermapen.............and an Ol' Fashion

I have a Flameboss 100. If it died I would get another.
My view: I cook anywhere from $50-$100 of meat at a time on L&S. I do this 3-4 times a month. If the pit controller helps make those cooks easier or saves just a few of my cooks over its life it pays for itself many times over. Plus I sleep much better when I'm using the controller. I put a great deal of value on my sleep.I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

Similar to what others have said already. I have seen dozens of cases on this forum and in person of fires going out on overnight cooks. I have never heard of a single instance when using the controller. Do you need one, no. Do they work as advertised, yes. Will you have peace of mind, no question. They are a luxury one might want if you can afford the cost.

I use one. While the device itself is great if you ever need customer service from BBQ GURU you may be very disappointed. That being said with a bit of experience you can control the temperature of an Egg without it.
I used the Guru yesterday in the wind. Same settings as any otherday, slide on the blower 2/3 shut & daisy wheel teardrops barely open. Temperature floated between 220-245*. Normally it stays between 223-230*. Not that those few degrees are going to matter.
Only reason I know about it is because I use my Thermoworks unit to monitor it. -
Wait for a holiday or birthday so you feel better about spending 300. It's worth it though.Dallas, TX

IMO, yes. I have a party q and a digiQ WiFi. Set it and forget it. Though, I do often do low and slows without them, I love having the option of not worrying about monitoring the cook.
