wait 24 hours after replacing gasket? really?

Good morning folks,
Going to re-gasket my egg tonight and am wondering about the last line in the directions. "Do not use the egg for 24 hours". That's a good chunk of the weekend!
I'd like to do a slow cook and am thinking that low heat will be fine.

My guess is that the gasket should be seated by the weight of the dome for 24 hours so good contact is made and therefor good adhesion. [p]Dont think doing a low-n-slow for a long time will hurt anything.

That's it exactly.... the adhesive is not bad... it's just double stick 3M tape.

Thanks. I'll buy the weight theory. That makes sense. It's just peel and stick so I'm not too worried about the fumes.[p]So it'll be a picnic tomorrow, and rumrunners corned beef on Sunday. wOOt!

I think the longest I have ever waited was 3-4 hours, and I've not had a problem with it sticking or with any detectable fumes or odors, etc.[p]TNW
