We're totally spoiled eating food at home vs. out since we have two Kamados and can cook just about anything better than the "best" restaurants..

Last time we went to dinn, it was over $60 for the two of us - and that was with one drink each.

Signing the check I told SWMBO - "I could have bought a small brisket for this!!"

There are VERY few restaurants that I think are 'worth' it to go to.  The only time we eat out anymore is when we need a break from cooking or are just too tired to do it ourselves.

Just last night my Spouse For Life and I went out for dinner with a friend at one of the nicer restaurants in town.
Another problem with that is that I thought they had a fairly limited menu.
At home, we cook whatever we want to eat........

I'd rather eat at home.  I'll pretty much eat anything that's put in front of me so food isn't the main reason.  It's more less the rush, price, and atmosphere. Most restaurants see you as money signs.  Give me your money, hurry up and eat, and get the hell out of here. I'm not saying that's for every restaurant but it feels that way for most.  My wife was a server so I completely understand how the restaurant/server needs to have a revolving door.  So rather than bit*h about it I stay home.  I enjoy cooking/grilling and not necessarily good at it but I think it means a little more when eating it.  Plus I can go and flip some burgers or steaks on the egg in my oil stained tshirt and jeans when wrenching on something.  No need to clean up and impress!

I think it depends on what we're talking about.  Your standard chain restaurant - absolutely aren't worth it.  There are places we go for something we're not going to cook at home (primarily pho, Indian, sushi, ruebens) places that I probably can beat at home but are still good enough that I don't mind paying for the convenience of not having to cook or clean (pizza/subs, Chinese, Mexican).

And then there are the places that blow us out of the water - that show the difference between talented amateurs and professionals with the imagination, technique, and ability to source the best materials.  I've had dinners at Woodberry Kitchen, Qui, Husk Nashville, Volt, Curate, Knife, and others where the food was really an experience.

I agree completely. I got off the road and had my egg at 300 in a jiff. Changed into old clothes. Put on some bird my wife had picked up.  I enjoyed a stick. Hooted at the kids on the trampoline. Had a G&T  and generally loafed. I ate my bird standing next to my egg and pondered life. It wasn't fancy and I didn't have to wonder if it would be worth the price. .77 cent a lb I figured that and my asparagus and  potato cost me about me about 2 bucks per person My son got to move things around on the egg which alone is worth it. The food was what I consider to be average everyday midweek fare. It sure beat The pants off what I ate all week on the road. God bless I'm glad to be home.

A lot of you guys sound like us. We never eat out anymore. The only exception is when it is family thing and we have to go. It usually sucks compared to what we can do at home.

I feel sorry for people that don't get to experience the great meals that all of us can put out!
