what is a good option of raised direct cooking

I just did chicken thighs "raised direct." I used three empty soda cans on top of the fire ring, below the grid. Puts you right at the felt line.
Beer cans work too. But, I tend to drink beer from bottles.

I got three 4" x 6" x 1" (approximately) fire bricks at the local mason yard for my local mason yard for my XL a couple of weeks ago. Works for me for now. $5 i think.XL BGE & Mini - CT USA

Woo2 for my large works great for both direct and indirect w/ platesetterCharlotte, NC - Large BGE 2014, Maverick ET 733, Thermopen, Nest, Platesetter, Woo2 and Extender w/Grid, Kick Ash Basket, Pizza Stone, SS Smokeware Cap, Blackstone 36"

Before I got my Woo, (I have 2 cooking grates) I put a cooking grate on the fire ring, then put 3 fire bricks on top, lastly put the second grate on top of the bricks.
That way if there was a sudden shift, the bricks wouldn't fall into the fire.I've slow smoked and eaten so much pork, I'm legally recognized as being part swine - Chatsworth Ca. -
Grid on fire ring, second grid (smaller Weber cheapo) with three carriage bolt legs/stilts. Bolts stay attached to the small grid so I can lift the whole assembly out when needed.
I should do something more "permanent" I guess. I almost never cook on the grid on the fire ring.I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

The brick dealer in town gave me 3. Works fine.

So mostly you guys use for bricks setting on top of fire ring. Is that stable as in falling over w a hot grid of food or maybe breaking fire ring. Not real educated on fire brick but think there mostly 3" will that put grid to high close lid completly

I don't have an AR or WOO on my LBGE (that isn't to say I wouldn't get these products). I've been using this set-up for 3 yrs and it does everything I need it to do. Works perfect for 2 level direct, raised direct, 2 level raised indirect...etc.

Oh ok that looks good thanks a lot local stores like Walmart have the cheaper extra grates

I use three fire bricks wrapped in tin foil. The foil get's really greasy after 3 or 4 cooks. I re-wrap the bricks with fresh foil about every 4th or 5th cook.
