Plate setter on BGE small with or without fire ring ????

so I'm a newbie to the BGE , at my local BGE supply store I picked up the plate setter (thanks to this forum) and I was told I can take out the fire ring to get more space but my plate setter completely covers the firebox , it doesn't seem like a good idea. If I go legs down it has a good vent but I can't use the grate. Any advice greatly appreciated

Keep the fire ring in place. I've never removed mine.

No need to take it out unless you have clearance issues with food on the top grate

I used to have a small, even with the fire ring, the oversized plate setter chokes air flow when in legs up position. You can improve air flow by inserting three copper tee's/elbow's between the leg-up p/s and firebox.

I would return it if you haven't used it and buy the woo setup from ceramic grill store
