I have a funny wife. I am currently building our new outdoor kitchen. Unbeknownst to her I am looking at the next egg which will either be xl or xxl. Thus to say we were discussing details last night and she asked why it was so large and that there was an empty corner. I told her it was for the next egg. The room went quiet for a second and then she replied that a bigger egg sounded good when we entertained. I then asked her how much I could spend on a bigger egg and she replied that 500 sounded like a reasonable amount considering how much we have enjoyed the current medium. I told her I very much appreciated the support around my hobby. I quickly left the room in case I could not keep a straight face. She is a great wife and I love her to death but it is good she has no idea what this really costs.

    Just go ahead and get the XXL and if she finds out it is easy to explain that you were only off by 1 zero. 

    Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

    You are flirting with disaster @Jstroke! No seriously you have the "green" light, no need to get specific with costs. My philosophy is that if it makes both of you happy that is all that matters. 

    We want to see pics of the finished product.

    The XXL is ridiculous. It's only 5 inches more in diameter and costs over three times an XL. I'd take 3XL's all day long over a XXL.

    If an XXL is 3x as much as an XL, shop around. My dealer has the XXL for $3,649 and that includes Nest+Handler+Plate Setter.

    I still agree and would rather have 2 XLs+Cash, but I seriously don't know how some dealers are pricing the XXL how they are and still selling them.

    You are looking at it all wrong.  It may look like only 5" larger, but when looking at area it is almost 50% more cooking area.  I would love to see some XXL pics.  As long as it is not my money I say go for it!

    It isnt really about the money on the xxl. It's about real estate. I agree 100 percent that monetarily it makes absolutely no sense. My dealer has one, Im tinkering with the idea. There will be at least a new XL this year. I will post pictures of the kitchen when finished-no worries. Of course I started it and immediately it got nasty cold and rained like heck and i've got two Scout trips to go on so at the moment the basic structure is set up and I'm just starting the trim etc. More to come.

    From a cooking area standpoint. 3XL's win every time.  I've seen a couple of the XXL's in person. They are truly ridiculous unless you are trying to do a whole pig (and there's better and cheaper options for that). I bet that thing takes at least a bag of lump every time you fire it up.  MSRP is over 3x the XXL. Going rate for a XL here is about $1200 so $3600 for the XXL....
