Pinto beans on the Egg

Made some pintos for Easter for the family today.  The 1st ones on the egg.  Scored some ham hocks from Allen Benton at Benton's smokey mountain country hams in Madisonville TN.  If you haven't had the chance to taste some of his delicious products you can order them online.  Had never been there and it was a great visit!  Mr. Benton was there we had the pleasure of getting the story of his life and business.   Dinner turned out awesome.
The recipe I used:
1 pound dry pinto beans
1 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1 ham hock
4 cups water
1.5 of your favorite beer (my added touch)
1 onion, chopped
salt and pepper to your liking
I soaked the beans overnight with 1/2 the onion.
i soaked the ham hock overnight with the other 1/2 of the onion.
Set the egg on 250 and slow simmered them for about 4 hours in the Dutch oven.
Man they were great.
cooked some corn bread on the egg with the Benton's ham.  Wife made some green's with another one of the ham hocks.
Finished it off with some peanut butter cake.  Pics to follow!
Happy Easter Everyone!
cheers, Matt
