New Rutland & off center dome

today was the day I prepped the lbge for the upcoming season.  To that end, I,installed the Rutland I bought fom Ron lastnyear

    Didn't finish post and inadvertently hit post!!!!i was saying- installed the Rutland bought fom Ron last year. Process went smoothly and the old gaskets were easily removed.  The 3-M tool cleaned both surfaces quickly and thoroughly.  New gasket went on smoothly with no angst.  Then I checked the fit,with the "dollar bill" trick and found that the hinge portion of the dome wouldn't pass the test.  I looked and noticed you could see air space around the back area.  Sssssoooo I loosened the dome band and pushed the dome down evenly all around.  This made all areas pass the dollar test.  All of the circumference is quite tight now, except the very front where the handle is.  It is snug, but not as tight as the other areas. I'm trying to convince myself that snug is ok because heat should make it a little tighter anyway.  Is this a reasonable assumption?  Actually I had small problems with temperature control at the end of last summer and think this dome air leak was part of that problem.  Hopefully the band tightening and dome readjustment will alleviate that problem.  Any thoughts on this? Should I be considering any other things that need attending to?

    @chubs- been a pretty harsh winter around here .......so not much eggin' on the patio this season!

    You have already done the reseating properly so what I would do is this. Determine the start and end of where you feel the bill is loose. Then carefully take a putty knife and work it under the Rutland so as to gently lift it up enough to spread in another "appropiate" amount of your leftover Permatex and then press the Rutland back down. Once cured you should be tight! OK?

    @RRP Thanks a lot Ron......I can do that.  I'm also taking your advice and removing my Smokeware cap and removing the gasket from the egg. Then i'll clean the cap and put a new gasket inside the cap allowing me to remove the cap when I do a clean burn. When I take the gasket off the top of the egg, how do I remove it nicely without scarring the stack?

    In that case you don't want to use anything abrasive as it could damage the ceramic glaze. I would pull off or scrape off as much as I could with as a putty knife. Then use something like patience and Goo Gone. A stronger chemical such as mineral spirits will also work.
