Top Vents Open or Closed While Smoking

I understand that the top vents have to be open to some extent for temperature control. However, from my experience with a regular charcoal/water smoker, I want the vents to be closed so the smoke will stay around the meat and not go straight out the top. Can someone help me with this quandary?

You'll likely have to adjust the daisy wheel to a crack to get the desired temp if going pretty low.------------------------------

You will still have plenty of smoke around. The opening in the daisy wheel will be quite small at smoking temps.L x2, M, S, Mini and a Blackstone 36. She says I have enough now....eggAddict from MN!

For low and slow, I usually go with a 1/8" opening on top and bottom as a starting point. I typically set the egg to this once the egg had shown blue clear smoke at around 300-350 for awhile.
