Ivation wireless thermometer

We are newbie BGE owners and have also just purchased an Ivation wireless thermometer (and trying to smoke our first Boston butt today).  The instructions with the thermometer are not that easy to understand (read - we are technology challenged!).  We cannot get a readout on the receiver at all, only on the transmitter.  Any clue what we are doing wrong?  Or has anyone seen an instructional video we could watch to set this up?  Thank you so much.

Is it a Maverick 732 under a different name? by the looks of it on a quick search it is? If so turn them on right next to eachother at the same time. This works for me.It may take a few tries it can be finicky

As @grege345 said, maybe a Maverick under a different name. If so, I know that it makes a difference which one you  power on first. Can't remember which one.

I have no experience with the Ivation brand but with my BGE wireless, it's necessary to turn the receiver on before turning on the transmitter.

    Turn on the receiver first.

Also, there should be a resynch button on the back of the tranamitter. It is labeled c/f above and resynch below. Hold it for 2 seconds to pair with the receiver if it is not paired.

Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

  • Wow, thank you so much.  We turned them both off, then turned the receiver on first, followed by the transmitter.  We did this with them being side by side, as suggested.  Now getting readings on both.

Also this will sound goofy but turn the receiver off first.  There have been intermittent reports of the units killing batteries quick.  If you turn receiver on and off first the problem seems to go away.

Good luck with your first butt.  Good choice, they are forgiving and taste great!  Probably my favorite to cook.
