Stoker Blowers

Are Stoker blowers water resistant? I've got a waterproof box for the unit itself but was wondering if I need to rig up a rain shield for the blower unit.

It'd be good to have an option to cover it. I know I've seen people with various ways of covering the fan.I raise my kids, cook and golf. When work gets in the way I'm pissed, I'm pissed off 48 weeks a year.Inbetween Iowa and Colorado, not close to anything remotely entertaining outside of football season.
-
Probably should. Someone recently posted a photo that they used a sliced up beer can to cover it.

Thanks. I'll rig up something tomorrow. Good Sunday rainy day project.

An umbrella thru the handle will work in a pinch.

I just cut up a plastic cup and it extends beyond the fan and is tilted down running the water off and away...works great.Joe - I'm a reformed gasser-holic aka 4Runner Columbia, SC Wonderful BGE Resource Site: http://www.nakedwhiz.com/ceramicfaq.htm and http://www.nibblemethis.com/ and http://playingwithfireandsmoke.blogspot.com/2006/02/recipes.html

Water resistant. Not proof. That said I have used mine with only protecting the controller. A aluminum foil like tent would likely suffice for the blower so long as the incoming air is not blocked. FWIW Even with heavy rain I haven't had an issue. YMMVLBGE 2013 & MM 2014Die Hard HUSKER & BRONCO FANFlying Low & Slow in "Da Burg" FL

I have a guru. I just looked at a picture of the stoker. Looks pretty much like the guru fan. I grab a gallon zip lock bag and zip it on the unit. Airflow isn't restricted as you can't completely close it and it protects it just fine.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------Strongsville, OhioYes. I just made a trip to Home Depot for this design build project. Hope to have something completed in an hour or two.

Here's a prototype that I made for the 5cfm blower. It's a little rough but it's ok for a pair of tin snips and a hammer. Should serve the purpose and was easy to make. Rocks should sell this as a one piece adapter/cover

She's up and running. Haven't messed with the wifi part yet but I've got a target temp set and the blower is humming along. Built me a box this am too

The Pelican box is great for protection, but it's neat to be able to look thru the sides/top of the cheap boxes to see what's happening ... good call.
If you turn your sink trap fitting around, you can add a street 45 degree fitting to really keep the rain out of the box.
I like what you did with the fan protection, but think the red solo cup protection had more redneck cred!! Either approach is better than my tinfoil cap.

I used a 22.5 degree fitting on both back ports. It's easier to get the stoker plugs and electrical cord through. The box is still in design phase....

Is your chimney vent setting wide open? (nice job on weatherization project!)

It was when I took the pic. Shut it to 1/8" when the temp hit 150 and I knew the fire was going.
