Need Help with the top sticking to the lid

My BGE is now 16 years old and recently I have trouble getting the top off. I have to light the egg and get it hot before the residue on the very top of the lid and bottom of the top warm up enough fro me to get the top off. I have tried acetone and razor blades to get it clean, but it does not work. Can I use an oven cleaner? Other ideas? Thanks

Welcome aboard and with 16 years of egging you can teach us some things.
Now WRT your issue, I have had a top to lid binding but I solved it by rotating the top.  Was then able to remove.  Sounds like yours is much more tightly bound, I would try the rotation before any cleaners.  But since you are dealing with the top, if necessary you could use a bbq grill cleaner on the outside of the dome or inside of the top-doubt that would impact any cooks.  But just a theory.  Good luck-

You could put the lid inside the egg and do a clean burn to remove any buildup. Use a Scotch-Brite™ Clean and Strip Wheel to remove the build up on to top lip of the top.

  • Maybe a ball of tinfoil and give it a good scrub.

I assume you are talking about your daisy - right? Take a container big enough to hold like a plastic ice cream tub. Put the crudy daisy in and fill it with household ammonia. Let it soak for 24 hours and then take a brush and while wearing gloves just finish scrubbing it clean with a brush under running water.

If you are talking about the DMFT you should just start putting it inside of the egg during shutdown.  It will help burn the crud off.
