Ozark Oak Update

Jut got a call from Brad at Firecraft ( I had just ordered 4 Rockwoods and 2 OO's a couple days ago). He did confirm they did not have any OO and had heard that OO will be selling under a different brand but that has not been confirmed.
He also said he would honor the free shipping on the 4 Rockwood's under the $100 Order Free Shipping even though the 4 bags is less than $100.
Too bad I won't get to try the OO. But, I was impressed that Firecraft was pro-active with a phone call and thhe level of service. They could have said we'll give you free shipping but you'll need to add to your order.
Now that is customer service. Well done, Firecraft!

There has never been a reply to the question I raised on the Yellville wall, nor from the Chamber of Commerce. Maybe everyone is too busy following the Tammy Paxton story there! I guess the Paxton clan is the Kardashians of Yellville!Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

I saw some messages out there that support what @Biggreenpharmacist says - someone commented that the new bag looks like the RO Canadian bag, whatever that is. I think someone said that Hasty Bake lump is OO, if you check HB website, they're now out of stock.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER -

I read something about this yesterday and got scared, so I went to a local retailer that happens to sell Ozark Oak. I asked them if they had heard anything about it and they had't. In fact, they order direct from Arkansas and have 6 pallets on the way. So maybe just a Firecraft issue? Just in case, I bought 60 lbs worth, so that should get me through the weekend, may-be two."Quality and convenience are rarely seen walking hand in hand."- Alton Brown

I have Hasty Bake underneath these babies right now. I can tell you with 99% certainty it's Ozark Oak which I cooked with exclusively until I bought a buttload of Forest Lump which I hate. got 100lbs from Amazon for $120 free ship/Prime.

Word on the street is going to be called either Henapple Oak, or PBR Oak. Can't get confirmation from the new owner, lol.Ozzie_Isaac said:Stick a fork in OO .... wonder about the new name?Steve

Guess you haven't followed other threads but I personally called OO this week and was told they were closing down. It has been others who are saying they heard rumors that it is being sold and will be made under a different name whatever that means!toothologist said:I read something about this yesterday and got scared, so I went to a local retailer that happens to sell Ozark Oak. Same discussion on BBQ brethren, claims it is a royal oak buyout or something to that effect. http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/showthread.php?t=206567

I hear you guys, but as we have pointed out before BGE makes nothing!!! They out source everything! So why now sink capital into buying a dirty business hundreds of miles from them to make charcoal? I'm not saying it's not possible, but it is a far cry from what the company has always done!THEBuckeye said:@DoubleEgger

I looked up their address in google maps. They are out in the sticks, don't know how old the satellite photo, so no telling if the pile of logs is still there or if they have already converted them all to lump. I'm inclined to believe they are calling it quits. I looked for news and there is no mention of a buyout/acquisition, etc.RRP said:

I never said that BGE bought them. I said the product will end up in a green bag. Royal Oak buys it and starts packaging it up as a "new and improved" BGE lump.
-
Royal Oak has purchased other lump producers so that is not far fetched. OTOH RO already makes a green bag lump besides BGE lump. RO calls those green bags their Steak House lump. I've bought many bags of it and can't tell any difference from their flag ship red bag.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

OO is my favorite but I coudnt get it locally and mail order delivery was poor to Florida. I hope someone buys it, keeps the quality the same and makes it widely available
at competitive prices. Until then I will keep on rocking Rockwood brokered by @NPHuskerFLJacksonville FL -
I agree with this theory.RRP said:
