Baby octopus
Part of the bounty from the Asian supermarket visit over the weekend. Made a marinade of light soy, sugar, ginger, cilantro, garlic, lime juice, toasted sesame seeds, sesame oil, and Thai seasoning paste (ginger, cilantro, lemon grass, chile).

Left the little guys in the marinade overnight, and soaked some skewers as well. Fired up the LBGE to ~400°F raised direct. Put the marinade on the grid to thicken, and grilled the octopi until the tentacles curled and they had a little char on them.

Plated with some seaweed salad, and salmon roe (the rice turned out kinda stickier than I intended it to be).

Not my best plating effort, but it was tasty
. The octopi were tender and the reduced marinade tasted great as a dipping sauce of sorts. I'll probably do this again. Might go ahead and buy 2 packs next time.
Thanks for looking !

Living on the edge, love it. The first time I tried grilled baby octopus was when my 16 yo son ordered it at a restaurant - he made me feel less than adventurous, it was good.THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER

Damn, this thread sure blows the "Buba and his Beer" image associated with grilling out of the water. They look good ...

Thanks, everyone.
@hapster - now that you mention it, i do remember you cooking octopus before. i wish i had remembered that so i could have got some ideas. Most of the recipes on the interwebs are for Greek-style recipes. I only picked up half a pound because I had never cooked it before, but I'll likely pick up more the next time.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX. -
@NDG - no massage, but i did play with them a bit

@buzd504 - this was a hodge podge sort of plate... somewhere between Japan and Thailand. Next time, I think i would do something differently with the roe - maybe some lime, nanami togarashi, and radish to make a simple salad on the side. Or just garnish the rice with some of the roe to salt it. I actually thought the octopus with the rice was great by itself.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX. -
@blind99 - I watched this cook like a hawk. No walking away. Filled my sippy cup with scotch before heading out to the egg so I wouldn't have to refill. Took maybe 5-7 minutes per side. Pulled them shortly after the tentacles curled and the sugar and soy in the marinade just started caramelizing. The consistency was somewhere between calamari and scallops, but not chewy or rubbery.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX.
