  • Wilma is not interested because she knows I love to do it.  She sits by me and shares the eggside relaxation at times when the weather is nice.  She will read the dome thermo if I'm busy playing with our daughter so the game isn't stopped.  Nothing other than that.

Like others have said my wife doesn't use it because it is my thing. She knows I love to do it and doesn't mess with it.  When the weather is nice we sit out there together and relax.  She knows how to use it and would do fine in a pinch with some instruction but she has no intention of taking the joy of grilling away from me.

My wife and I share the egg(s) ...  I cook what goes on it and she eats what comes off it.  She could run it like a pro if she wanted, but has no interest in learning.

My wife didn't even like to use the gas grill when we had it.  If I ask her to check the temp when I am prepping the food, she will do that.  That's about it.  I don't mind, it kind of gives my my alone time and I can sit out and enjoy a cigar and the smell of the smoke, that is when its not so freaking cold.  I want to get a smaller egg and show her how to light it, but that is out for a while too.  She has noticed that I am happier when cooking so she doesn't want to mess with learning how to use it right now.  Neither does my father-in-law.  They like the food that comes off of it, but still think I spent to much on it.  Funny thing is in the last ten years my father-in-law has replaced his gas grill twice and my brother-in-law three times.  I got almost 20 years out of my old gas grill and hope use my XL tell I die.

This thread makes me sad!!!  I love to Egg!  I'm very new to Egging but was always the griller in my family.  I can remember having to stop grilling for two months when I was 8-9 months pregnant and just couldn't reach stuff.
My family thorough they were going to starve.

Seriously, it can be intimidating.  If she wants to learn, she will.  All the wires and gizmos on any DigiQ or whatever is intimidating.  I'm still not there yet but I'm taking baby steps.

The GrillGirl blog is also a great site for female-friendly cooks.  Worth a shot at least!

Don't let it make you sad. I think for most of us, the guys, we like for it to be our thing, and our wives don't mind it being our thing.

For me it is relaxing. I love to light my egg and cook. I especially like cooking something that takes an hour or so like chicken breasts. I like to stream Netflix etc, and something about sitting outside egging, and watching tv is very relaxing to me.

It helps take the edge off. My kids are right there with me if it is raining. If the weather is good they are by the fire or in the pool. Either way they are still right there with me.

It helps me take the edge off and reduce stress. I think it is that way for a lot of us.
I like all that about grilling too!
Wait....does that make me a guy too?

Off to check my girl card.....

My wife was taught that cooking is a necessity......not a love or passion.  Therefore she views food the same way - something she has to consume in order to live.  She has no interest in cooking on the egg because it makes something she could do in the kitchen a lot more difficult.  Now don't get me wrong, she LOVES that I love it.  I feel like the egg is made for those of us who are truly passionate about grilling/smoking.

I go to the grocery store and do 99% of the cooking.  I'm convinced that's the only reason we are still happily married 20 years into it

I do most of the grilling on the egg, my husband sometimes trys but it's just easier to do it myself.

That worked well with the gas grill ... she became frustrated with me and started doing the cooking herself.  But, she's smarter now and pleads ignorance when I try to talk her into cooking on the egg.

My wife is scared of the mapp torch to light it

  • my wife thinks is a total waist of money.  I bought a 2700.00 gas grill 2 years ago that she won't let me get rid of because that is all she wants to use.  And she only grills in the summer.  Total waist of money!!!

If I could get her onto ceramics, I may even renew my vows with her one day
