Mickey, I understand what you are saying - just like in your car selling days, but I think most Eggers are more apt to weigh their purchasing decision with SWMBO giving her OK. With that same frame of mind then the BGE purchased will probably be a lonnnnnnnng time holding, if not forever, unlike a different set of wheels that depreciates and loses it's usefulness - whereas a 10 year old, 15 year old or 20 year old egg is still a useful vessel for burning lump and churning out great food! In other words having the newst model car in your driveway is important to some people, but I'm not sure outside of this forum most neighbors OTHER than a fellow egger give a rats *ss what grill is on their neighbors back deck.

I have been here for years and I recall the hoopla when the XL came into being. Some ran right out and bought it, but some gagged at the price and to this day I don't believe if we could ever see the numbers that that many XL have ever been sold. Just the same a new size egg being this M/M at $600 is within reach for some folks and that's cool! I and apparently some others who have said the same on this thread are happy with our small, mini, medium etc and MAY buy a M/M in the future, but we are just not convinced to spend the coin now. Peace, brother?

I have the XL and went to the mothership to look at a MM. Came home with a medium and haven't looked back.

@RRP isn't the XL a pretty good seller? It seems like many people on the forum have one. I sold my large and kept my XL its a much better cooker in my opinion.

I think my next egg will be a small. It would be perfect for during the week. My neighbor has 7 grills, but one one is an egg. He just got a new gasser a few weeks ago. I don't want to deal with the stupid gas bottles anymore. The only way I would get another gasser is it would have to be plumbed in to natural gas to the house.

I have had an XL for several years now, and my new Mini Max is the perfect compliment to it.  I couldn't be happier with the setup.

I admit I could be wrong!  However I don't believe outside of folks with BIG families or folks who entertain a lot, or competition teams or lastly the guys who want to own the BIGGEST "whatever" buy the XL. I'm glad you have an XL and you like it and all that, but I'm still not convinced that if the truth was known there really are THAT many XL eggs that have been sold in comparison to the other sizes. I will tell you that as a seller of a certain item that people seem to seek me out for the L and smaller eggs far, far out number the XL buyers. Just saying that I know a little because of traffic shall we say?

A MM has GOT to be more portable than a small, right? If not, I'm fixing to make a 500 buck mistake on the MM. Need input on this!!!!

I do NOT know, but your assumption makes sense. Based on what I saw, touched and have read the M/M is nothing but a small BGE with a truncated bottom, new stand and an inflated price.
    Is THIS sour grapes?

@RRP the large was a pain. I couldn't cook a full rack of Costco ribs without foiling the ends or they would burn and 13 plus pound briskets had to be draped over something to even fit on the large and the ends still had to be foiled. The XL doesn't have those issues. To me it was all about ease of use. The XL can do everything the large can and then some.

Never used or seen a MM so a limited view from a small owner. I love it. I can pick it up with the nest and put in the back of my Tacoma with no issues. When it's in the nest it is still at a comfortable cooking level and does longer cooks very nicely. Between the small and the large the small will see 80-85% of the action at my house.

I know from my local dealer I have one of the very few XL's he has sold. He did everything he could to talk me out of it. I politely listened then described a typical summer cook. I mentioned how I complety fill my WSM and use my kettle too. He looked at me and said, "oh ok. In your case an XL makes sense".

He reiterated he generally does not recommend them. He has them in his store but finds the large fits 99% of peoples needs.

btw, my 3rd cook filled the XL to the brim. 8lb shoulder and 9lb ham. I could have maybe done it with an L and an AR, but I am terrible at three card monty.

I do have buyers remorse with the Lg from time to time but never with my small. It'll never be taken out of the table so it made more sense to me.

@Ozzie_Isaac on those weekends when we have company I would like the extra real estate. That's why I bought my 4 burner outdoor griddle. I use the griddle for the burgers and dogs while I have the lg goin for the slow stuff. Griddle also comes in handy for the reverse sear. However the griddle doesn't like cold weather at all!!!

Yeah I hear that. With kids and neighbors I rarely cook for less than 6. When I do I cook for leftovers.

I have a 22.5" weber, a WSM, and a gasser too. Those are all terrible in the cold. I used to use blankets, wind blocks and tons of kingsford. The only thing my Webers have done this winter is hold my hot grates and stones.

I have a large and have been considering purchasing another Egg. But which size?? At first, I thought I wanted a MM. Then I thought......I do not plan to travel with it, so why not just go with a small, because it has more room for lump? Then I thought......if I'm not moving it around, why not get a medium, because of the larger cooking surface. Then I thought.....since I recently bought an R&B Combo Adjustable Rig and Extender, leaving me with a lonely, neglected platesetter, why not get another large, so my accessories are interchangeable?? That's it.....I'm buying another large.
I'm glad we got THAT settled!!

Steak&Shake is a local chain that uses a large griddle to cook burgers. Basically a large hot top similiar to your griddle.

Btw, your setup is awesome. I wouldn't regret a L for a second with that setup!

Exactly. I came home from school and they were gone. Not even forwarding address! @Jeepster47 never did ribs, brisket, or shoulders when I lived at home.

He bemoans the fact when I bring my brood over. Mrs. Jeepster lets me take home the leftovers. hehehe

@Nanook ... you must be my long lost twin.  Little different thought process, but I ended up with the same conclusion.  Now, buy a PSWoo and you'll have true versatility with two larges.

Since you have a large and all the accesories ask your dealer for the price on a stripped down large. You can save some coin that way.

If you focus on the cost, then you'd never buy a small ... it's only $100 less than a medium.  And, if you're thinking about a medium, why not spend an additional $200 and get a second large.  Then all your equipment is interchangeable and mixable.  See how that rationalization works?
