I went small for two reasons. The most truthful being that the MM was not available yet and I was too impatient to wait. But the other reason I went with the small over the MiniMax was the depth. I wanted the depth of the fire bowl to ensure I could do a low and slow on it still. I was concerned that with the shallower base, I would not be able to hold enough lump to do a long burn.

I have the small. MM was not available when I got her. She goes camping with me all summer long and I am guaranteed to have at least 1 curious fellow camper come and discuss the egg and how she cooks every time.

They are a conversational piece at the campground for sure. I too, have at least one comment or discussion each time out.Put eyes, and hands, on a MM a couple of days ago. The only plus is the table nest with handles. One happy camper rollin' with the small.BrandonQuad Cities

yo, Brandon, my man...good to see you post! I just mentioned on the other side that you had gone off the grid and they might not hear from you. Are you headed to the Frozen Fest this year? Been practicing for the shot ski? LOLRe-gasketing the USA one yard at a time -
Not to stir the pot too much, but I'm very happy with my Kamado Joe Jr that I purchased a month ago. A very good cooker. It comes in a really cool iron stand that holds it about 5 inches above whatever it's sitting on, so no heat problem. The stand also has a handle on each side to aid in portability.According to their web site it is 12 pounds lighter than the weight of the MM given above. Also, it will stand up in my Subaru Forester just fine. It has a permanent place here!John in the Willamette Valley of Oregon

You really didn't ask for my opinion, but I honestly feel the small is the overall better solution. At only 10lbs less for the MM, why not. Granted, I am a larger person, but there is always someone around to help if need be.theyolksonyou said:The wife doesn't know it yet, but I'm really contemplating a smaller portable egg for the summer. So, what say you Ron, owner of small and mini, toucher of minimax?

Gonna miss hangin' with the "Wild" ones.First weekend in June I'm scheduled off, may try coercing Staci to visit during that time.
Looking forward to stealing your table real estate once again. lolBrandonQuad Cities

Can't comment on the Mini or the Small. The MM juice was worth the squeeze and the wait (weight
). It's hefty but, I would eggspect nothing less from a BGE. For those with a Mini or Small and want a MM I would still keep my other eggs. LBGE 2013 & MM 2014Die Hard HUSKER & BRONCO FANFlying Low & Slow in "Da Burg" FL -
No, it's a private affair up North by a small group of eggers who have been friends for years. Some travel great distances to get there. I believe it is by invitation only and started at an egger's home a few years back. One of the notorious pastimes is lining up with the shot ski - which is an old ski drilled with holes to hold several big shot glasses. Since it is a group indulgence then there is no sipping the shots and they go down the throat in a rush! More than one blitz has been blamed on that tradition! BTW the attendees are some of the most talented, creative eggers on this earth.saluki2007 said:@RRP More info on the Frozen Fest? Is it a local BGE event?

How hard is the medium to transport.? I have a xl. . Or should I go to the small?

Using the same Pot Lifter that I have recommended before then my little wife and I can easily carry our Medium egg as well. It runs less than $30 and can handle a Large also!UrbanForestTurnings said:How hard is the medium to transport.? I have a xl. . Or should I go to the small?

I bought a folding wagon for $60 from Costco for when I need to take the mini/MM very far. It will hold the mini/yeti 50 or the MM and roadie. It was the perfect excuse to get a roadie.

@UrbanForestTurnings - I have an XL and a medium. I'm not a car/motorhome camper, so don't have much use for portability. I looked at all the folks buying MM's and thought I ought to buy one. Then I got to the justification phase, and couldn't see what it added to my capabilities. Can't see much additional benefit - I doubt I'd be cooking on all 3 very often. Having a second egg is definitely worthwhile, and for me the medium is the right size - I can do meat and veggies for 2 at the same time. The XL gives me the capability for large cooks, but truthfully, the medium sees the most action at my house. On larger cooks I'll frequently have them both going. Choosing a second egg is difficult, and doesn't always follow the rules of logic. I'm sure that also applies to the third egg,.. and the 13th.Santa Paula, CA

My dealer told me the MM weighs 80 pounds. My parents bought the MM for my 10 y/o daughter for Christmas. She cooks on it all of the time. I have done something well as a parent somewhere along the line.
I like your set up!!! That's going to be me in a month or two.Dave - Austin, TX -
MM owners we got something special.....these non owners ....the debate will go on and on

I'm still up in the air. The xl can handle a butt load. Do I need or want a med. think a small is out of the question.

I got a large so I think a mini max would be the best fit for me. I don't need to do a 12 hr cook while on the road.Dave - Austin, TX

The MM will go 12 hours at 250.

Just get it. I have bought 6 (one was won) and still have 4. There is no real reason, just get her to agree and sell it if not working out.Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now).
