Cleaning cooking grid

What is the quickest and best way to clean the porcelain cooking grate? I read of the 1 to 1-1/2 cup of ammonia in the garbage back trick but have not tried it yet. After those slow shoulder smokes it gets real gummy. Anyone use a stainless grid instead of the porcelain grid? I try to be carefull not to scratch or gouge the porcelain surface trying to get burnt hamburger meat from the last cook. [p]Thanks

    LimpBrisket,
When my egg is heated up and before i put the meat on it, I spray a light coat of PAM cooking spray on the grid. When I am finished cooking and the egg is still hot, I use a wire brush to remove any excess that is left. It cleans up nicely, so when I start the next cook, I'm ready to go again.

  • fishlessman,[p]What the heck is a weedburner? It looks like it works well. How much does it cost because we all love gadgets![p]I sometimes use PAM and ALWAYS scrape with a BGE grill scraper which has a notch that fits in the grooves of the grid. I was told that this won't hurt the porcelain surface as a wire brush could. I turn the grid over and burn the junk off whenever possible.

    LimpBrisket,
Well the trick is dont use ammonia or cleanser for cleaning any porcelain, sinks, stove grate, cooking grates. It ruins the finish and make it easier to have food cling to it. If you want sparkle type grates, soak in soapy water, or have an extra set for when friends show up and you can show off the nice clean grates. We alwas had a special set for our stove, and cooked with the crapy ones. I good brass brish would be fine, Go to a hign end kitchen appliance store and get a bottle of porcelain cleaner for sinks, that stuff works great.
