So good! First Spatchbird and Taters on my egg!

Thanks everyone for the terrific hints and ideas throughout this forum. This was my first-ever spatchcock chicken on my 2-week-old BGE. A little dizzy dust under the skin is all. The hasselback potatoes got a drizzle of EVOO, black pepper and garlic salt and a little couple slices of onion each... and then drizzle of melted butter 30 minutes in. All on the top rack of the adjustable rig at 425 dome for 60 minutes exactly. Thermapen said chicken breast internal was 190... which is supposed to be too high but family including kids loved it from crispy chicken skin to "wood-fired potato chips!"

Hot Dam!The Dude: This is a very complicated case, Maude. You know, a lotta ins, lotta outs, lotta what-have-you's. And, uh, lotta strands to keep in my head, man. Lotta strands in old Duder's head. Luckily I'm adhering to a pretty strict, uh, drug regimen to keep my mind, you know, limber.Walter Sobchak: Nihilists! *uck me. I mean, say what you want about the tenets of National Socialism, Dude, at least it's an ethos.

Nick looking cook. Yes, chicken is forgiving and the spatchcock bird is always a hit. Heck, you can season the bird to accommodate just about any meal.
Any road will take you there if you don't know where you're going.

YUM!! I have yet to do taters like this but they look fantastic.

Good looking cook. Did the taters and chicken go on at the same time?
Also, do you work at the proving grounds?

Those taters look mighty fine!

The potatoes did go on at the same time as the chicken. I just set them on the cutting board between two chopsticks and sliced away... then I put olive oil, garlic salt and a little pepper on each one. I opened the egg (I know, I know) 30 minutes in and poured a little melted butter on each one as well.I think the chicken was probably done 5 or 10 minutes before I took it off... lessons learned. Next time the potatoes go on 10 or 15 minutes ahead and I will try to keep the dome temp under 425.
