Finally Made Me a Device To Smoke Meat and Cheese

I finished my Smoke Pipe Contraption, and even smoked some sandwich slices just to see it work.

Some others wanted to see it so I combined the photos into a little YouTube video.

It was a fun project. Now to figure out how to use it.

Looks good, I'm interested to see how it works for  you.  I've been considering getting a MM, and this might just be one more reason to do so.

Will you have to do any heat in the egg with the cheese etc? Or does all the heat just come from the other egg?
  • Nice. You showed me yours I will show you mine. Think I did post my first prototype
  • Found it. It was under my plan of the day. Need to make a few adjustments tomorrow and do some cheese.

Looks good and I'm sure it will work, but I've been using the A-Maze-N Smoker in my large and it works great for cheese and cold smoked meats with little effort.  The best thing is you don't need the hose and the second cooker.  The cool temps here are perfect for doing cheese right now.

  • It's just fun to make something. And I have all the wood shavings I could ask for. I don't buy wood or pellets.
  • Noregard ... I'm sure there are simpler methods with better results, but I saw this posted years ago and decided one day to make one myself.  So far, so good.

Froman ... The heat was surprisingly hot at the top of the Mini and down the pipe a foot or so, but then it got cooler and by half-way down, no heat at all.  The meat was still cold throughout the smoking process.  Not sure how it's going to taste after it sits a bit.

UrbanForestTurnings ... I'm impressed with your thinking.  Does it work?  Better yet, was it fun to build?

BOWHUNR ... A few years ago I somehow received a package of smoking pellets.  And someone suggested they were pretty good, so I made a little foil pouch for them and set them inside my Large Egg.  They didn't flame up, just smoldered, giving off smoke and hardly any heat.  There wasn't enough to do much but I had it in the back of my mind (you know how that goes) to find some more and try it again.  Never did, but it sounds like it might be a very simple method that requires nothing more than a match.

Don't you just love how Eggheads can be so creative in how they use their Eggs...

  • Spring. Yes It will. Just need to tweak it before I weld up the real deal . 200psi compressor just a tad over kill. A fish pump would work. But what the heck if you got it use it
