Issues with new BGE XL

Good point @Jeepster47. Now that I think about it, you might find you can just lay in the two halves and get by fine.Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

Ok, I placed two fire bricks that I had from my old woodburning stove under the cracks. The rep was trying to get the dealer to order in the ash grate without me having to pay for freight. Leo and behold, the dealer didn't want to do that. So I guess I know the quality of his dealership.1 brand new XL BGE 1-22" WSM 1-Weber Performer 1-Four Seasons gasser West Islip, New York

You do not have to pay shipping as the dealer will just include your warrant items as part of their normal order. If your dealer tried to charge you shipping, find another dealer. Also, since the unit is about a month old, I think the Mothership will step up for you anyway. You paid good money for a lifetime warranty and BGE will make it right...as expected. The dealer wanted nothing to do with warranty issues according to the rep.1 brand new XL BGE 1-22" WSM 1-Weber Performer 1-Four Seasons gasser West Islip, New York

Dump that guy! Heck,. BGE should pull their product. I'll give the exact opposite example. I went to a dealer near my house on a recommendation from the folks here that live in Columbia, SC and even though I didn't buy the Egg from them they got my warranty items handled...without hesitation. Jack Oliver's on Forest Drive if there are any others in Columbia wanting to know. Back to you, that is too bad. Mothership can help find a better dealer. Also, what is the dealer's name? I'm just curious as to what type of retail store it is.Joe - I'm a reformed gasser-holic aka 4Runner Columbia, SC Wonderful BGE Resource Site: http://www.nakedwhiz.com/ceramicfaq.htm and http://www.nibblemethis.com/ and http://playingwithfireandsmoke.blogspot.com/2006/02/recipes.html

Bravos Window and Door. Again, I didn't pick dealer and my wife got it for me for Christmas. I didn't know I was getting it and certainly can't blame her.1 brand new XL BGE 1-22" WSM 1-Weber Performer 1-Four Seasons gasser West Islip, New York

Ahhh. Thanks for the information. Any BGE dealer should handle your warranty is my point. I got my for Christmas too back in 2008 and had no clue I was getting it either. I just went to my dealer of choice, sent some pictures of the damage and they completed warranty process from there and the following week they called me to pickup my items. Sorry, you may have all this covered in the thread as I'm joining late.Joe - I'm a reformed gasser-holic aka 4Runner Columbia, SC Wonderful BGE Resource Site: http://www.nakedwhiz.com/ceramicfaq.htm and http://www.nibblemethis.com/ and http://playingwithfireandsmoke.blogspot.com/2006/02/recipes.html

I would deal directly with BGE head quarters. BGE is too expensive to have the issues you are experiencing in less than 1 month of ownership. When my fire grate cracked on my XL, about 2 months after purchase, I called my dealer and they told me to bring it in. When I got there, they asked my name, I showed them the cracked grate, and they had the replacement waiting and handed it to me. Easy peasy.XL BGEJoe JRBaltimore, MD

I would find a different dealer anyways. The cracker heads didn't even know how to put it together right.
Um... what are you getting at? That I might spend too much money on egg stuff...lol?stemc33 said:@MadcapMagician, what about the dome alignment?
I understand that parts break and need to be replaced under warranty, which BGE seems to be great at doing. However, if I paid for something to be assembled and it was apparent the item was not right, there would be no telling me what I need to do to fix it. I would flip out on them £!+c#'s and demand that they come and fix it. I'd be like...£!+c#, come this fix this $#!+. Not only do they need to fix the alignment, they need to give you an accessory, discount coupon for next purchase, a gift certificate to the local butcher, or something to keep your business. If you were a BGE collector like @badinfluence, they'd lose a lot of future business for the crappy treatment. People think they can treat you like that Comcast video and get away with taking your money for nothing. Sickening.

@Jeepster47 the point here is that it WAS thedealers fault for incorrect assembly of the egg in the first place and now wants to say rule 12 says I can charge you for shipping.
he stated it is a window and door place. Samegoes tthere if you hire him to order and install a door and he gets it to short wide or whatever. Then he tells you he can get you the correct door but he has to charge you for it.1 XXL BGE, 1 LG BGE, 2 MED. BGE, 1 MINI BGE, 1 Peoria custom cooker Meat Monster.Clinton, Iowa -
@badinfluence ... sorry, I moved my post to a separate thread and left your response hanging a little.
I agree the dealer should not be in the BGE business. S/he is not representative of the normal dealer we encounter. However, the failed grate was a manufacturing defect that took the fire bowl with it ... something that would have happened with any dealer. Their response to that failure was, although technically correct, inappropriate.
The under bite is probably part dealer and part BGE. The ceramics are not perfectly round and the hinge could use some improvements. That being said, if the dealer couldn't adjust the over/under bite to within 1/8 inch, then s/he should have ordered a new hinge assembly ... agree?
Mine has a 1/8 inch under bite that neither the dealer nor I can adjust out ... probably should ask for a new hinge assembly ... maybe ... damn thing cooks good and the factory seal is still good ... maybe I'll revisit getting a replacement when it gets warmer.

Not at all @badinfluence. I was just trying to say that if @MadcapMagician were to get a collection of BGE's like you, the dealer would lose a lot of money by his actions on this transaction. Not to mention business on future doors and windows.

I don't really know why anyone, customer or dealer, should have to pay shipping with a warranty item. I think BGE should cover it. It is their product.Louisville, GA - 2 Large BGE's

I think this is a good lesson, especially for those of us whom own our own business. That the importance of service after a sale is done. Whether I ever buy another egg or not, I most certainly would never, ever buy one from them and would never recommend them in any way shape or form.1 brand new XL BGE 1-22" WSM 1-Weber Performer 1-Four Seasons gasser West Islip, New York

@Madcapmagician ... the interesting thing is that studies have shown (before the internet) that not only will you not recommend them, but you'll tell approximately 20 different people how poor their follow-up service is.
On the other hand, if someone receives good service, they tend to tell very few people. That's why successful businesses have to provide good service to many more customers than the few they screw up.

My dealer is great. My fire box cracked and they said email them photos of it and they will get it replaced. I had a new one in a few weeks. I just picked it up at their store that is about 4 miles away from me. I also had a problem with the XL raised grid and they replaced it. The new raused grids broke aging, bad design, but I like it. So I am going to have it beefed up at a welding shop. Don't give up, find another dealer that is a better place for help and they should help you out. I go by my dealer about every other week just to see how they are doing. Mine have kind of become like family.XL, WSM, Coleman Road Trip Gas GrillKansas City, Mo.
