Spatched chicken and a pot pie

First time trying/cooking spatchcock chickens, I'm hooked. Used 4" kiln posts to raise the grid to the felt line and had the Egg going at 350-375. When I was moving the chicken the legs and thighs sepearated from the breast. The chicken was very moist and full of flavor. I then used left overs to make chicken pot pie. Will definitely be doing this weekly.imageimageimageimageimageimageimage<img

Spatchcock fast, tasty and fun to say! Leftovers are the secret gift of the egg. Pot pies, taquitos, nachos, enchiladas, egg rolls..... Very good cook!

  • @jeepster47 Kiln posts are used in pottery kilns when firing. They hold shelves that are stacked on top of each other in order to fill the kiln with pottery. they range from1/2" and up. Just like having multiple cooking grids in the Egg. Kiln posts can withstand temp's into the 2000 degree range. A lot of the pottery and kiln furniture as its called is made in the same factory that makes the BGE. I've coked pizza on top of a kiln that's firing to 1800 makes for a crispy crust.

@Eggingaround ... thanks.  I like how you used the three inch posts to raise the grate.  The 1/2 inch ones would make great spacers for drip pans and pizza stones.  The three/four inch ones look like they would work well for a secondary raised grate above the felt line grate.  I'll have to visit our local pottery store.
