Good price for a used Large BGE

I'm wondering if $650 is a good price for a 1 and a half year old large BGE with nest, plate setter, and electric fire starter. There are no cracks in it. Any thoughts?

What's the warranty worth to you? That is the question. With the used one there is no warranty. I personally would add a couple hundred and buy new with warranty.

A few schools of thought. If you can make an eggfest you can get a new one for close to that with a warranty. If eggfest out of question, and the egg is in good shape I would not have a problem with $650. You can always offer lower. Worst they can say is no. It would have to be the new model for me though

Yeah, what is that worth new these days?   I'm guessing but I think the grill is 850, plate setter is around 80, nest is probably 100.  So, about a grand for that setup.  35% off isn't bad.  Express your concern for the lack of warranty and tell him you'll pay $500.

  • I have been so tempted to buy a used egg, but the lack of warranty scares me. I would have to get it for $400 to $500 in order to offset my fear.

Add your name and location to your signature line. It will help when asking questions. Others in your area are more likely to jump in and help adding local information, prices and places to buy.

@domefoam-I would offer the following; if you can get the lightly used BGE for around 40-60% (cheat to the lower #) of the new prevailing area price then it is a reasonable deal.  But the real score is at an egg-fest-deep discount on the BGE and you get the warranty. Check out the going prices for a demo BGE at the Salado-fest; to be held 3/14/15.  FWIW-

  • Large at the dealer in my town right now is listed at 750 w/o nest etc... PS is $70. I know he would sell the egg for $700. That said, 650 seems high for this area at least. No warranty scares me away.

@domefoam - as others have eluded to - you typically can buy a new egg used the day of an eggfest for at least 10% off if not more and still receive the full warranty. Perhaps you aren't aware why so many of us want that warranty unless we can really buy a used egg dirt cheap. The egg is ceramic and have ceramic internal parts which are almost certain to crack and break. Replacing them at your cost retail is expensive - especially if you have problems with the outer shell pieces. BTW no $650 is NOT a good price.

Awesome, thanks for the info.  I already have a large and wouldn't mind another.  A friend of mine threw that number out for what he would want to part with his.  I didn't show any interest to him, but was curious whether it was a good price.

  • If its a friend and he'll file warranty claims for you it might not be a bad deal.
