When it's cold and windy...

When it's cold and windy, I'm relaxing and relying on the iGrill 2. Hopefully all goes well with the pork butt. Meat on the BGE at 0130 after stabilizing at 260°

Let us know your thoughts on the igrill. Mainly the range, I've heard it has issues.

Uh oh...I might be chasing temps. BGE temp dropped about 25° in 20 minutes and set off the alarm. Went out to check on it and the bottom vent was full of ice. Cleaned the ice and left the screen opened. Also opened the dome to give the fire a shot of oxygen. Now the temps creeping up. Trying to hold off from making anymore adjustments to see where it's going to settle.

I'm sure it will settle down. Trust your setting. I would probably ditch the screen personally. 5° is cold. Wish it was that cold here

Sounds like a neat gadget. I'm with @Jeremiah‌ on this...let us know what kind of range you get with it. I have also heard of problems in regards to true range.
Hopefully you've got the pit stabilized now and no more ice buildup. Good luck man.

@Jeremiah‌, I've been losing connection where I'm sitting in the house. Probably about 40' away. It reconnects automatically and continues where it left off so it's not a big deal for me. I can see where range could be a major issue for some users.

@grege345‌, I left the screen opened and closed the bottom vent a little to compensate for the screen. The temperature didn't seem to be leveling off and surpassed 300° so I went out and made a few small adjustments. Like I said, I might be chasing temps. It's all good, I'll get it figured out.

That's definitely nice being able to monitor it from the phone &/or PC. This is one of the many features I love about the Wi-Fi Stoker too. Great looking cook man :-bd
In a few hours you should be ready for some PP :)

@UrbanForestTurnings‌, I did have an issue earlier. I got disconnected for a few hours and the temp dropped due to ash build up and no alarm since it was disconnected. Back on track after I used a wiggle rod. I think it might of disconnected because my phone locked out. Anyway, almost finished.

Thanks for documenting the cook.  I'm cringing looking at that falling outside temp though.

I pulled the butt at 191°. It was just hanging out at 191° but was probing like buttah in some areas. I FTC'd for later, so the firm spots will loosen up by the time we eat.

@YEMTrey‌, the -3° with sun feels better than when it was 8° and windy last night.

Cold is awesome. It's the wind that's tricky.

Thanks @stemc33‌ that's the same range issues others are having. Guess it's time to start a change jar for the stoker.

I had the pleasure of driving the full length of I-80 through your state on Saturday.  Icy roads the first 1/4, bad crosswinds/drifting snow/-24F windchill the second quarter, then it cleared up once I got past Rock Springs.  Family emergency, too close to Xmas, couldn't get a flight.
    Never again.

I take it you don't plan on retiring here? I-80 can get nasty.

I hate cold weather more than anything else, but some of the scenery you guys post from the area could make me tolerate it.  Absolutely beautiful environment there.

We get a lot of good days that are quite pleasant throughout the year. Sometimes we get a string of crazy erratic weather. Catches a lot of people off guard.
