turkey wings tonight

My wife wanted to try some turkey wings tonight. Since I've never cooked just the wings before, even on conventional appliances, I'm thinking it should be like a chicken only bigger??? Say 350 dome indirect until 170 internal?? Or would you setup for indirect at 250 and take longer to get there?

ronbeaux,
Whoops, left out some details. There are two wings that together weigh 3.5lbs. Any idea how long?

ronbeaux,
I've never actually done turkey wings, but I would probably do them sort of slow around 250° until they reached about 170° to 180°. You'll know when they are done because they will probably kind of "sticky up" on you when the fat is rendered out and mixes with your rub.[p]Nature Boy and I were having a discussion about this over the weekend and that is where I came up with the "sticky up" comment.[p]No clue on times, but I would guess an hour or maybe 2 at those temps.[p]I'm hoping someone with actually turkey wing experience will chime in soon.

Bobby-Q,
Sounds like it would work that way. If nobody chimes in, I'll catalog the step by step process and show the results with pictures.
Step 1 so far-- martinating in KC Masterpiece Garlic and Herb, just lit the egg. I'll shoot for 275 and split the difference. (have to wait for the wife to go on a walk to apply the rub, she thinks the rubs have too much pepper in them)

Bobby-Q,[p]I wish i could give you adive on the turkey wings but I have never done them, So I'd just be WING'IN it (sorry.....couldn't resist).

BBCause,
Good one! Can't be that hard, it's just a big chicken and I got one of those temperature thingies. I've decided on indirect at 275 with mesquite lump and chips.... We'll see

ronbeaux,
Here they are at 165 internal

Here they are before cooking[p]
[p]
I decided on 275 dome but it's taking forever! So I jacked it up to 350 to finish the last few degrees. Looks like about 15 more minutes until done.[p]Thanks to all who gave ideas. I'll let you know how they taste.

Bobby-Q,
That "sticky up" thing was right on!! About the time they hit 170 internal they got sticky![p]Thanks!!!

<p />Bobby-Q,

Here they are, nice and "sticky" 2 hours and 15 minutes at an average of 275 with a finish of 320 for the last 7 minutes. Indirect. Mesquite lump with a chunk of mesquite wood for smoke. I like 'em. Don't know if anyone else will but it was fun!!
