    bearmontana, Do you mean for measuring food temps, temps at grill level, or as a replacement for the dome thermometer?

    If he means temp at the grill, there are at least two alternatives. There are less expensive analog units that sit right on the grill, and slightly more expensive infrared units that allow the user to "point and shoot". Incidentally, infrared units allow you to read the surface temp of the food, and are especially nice for monitoring cold-holding temps.[p]Both types are good, but subject to their own limitations. I've had both, but rely on the "polder in potato" when I want to know grill temp.[p]Ken
