Man they have " coon suppers" at a lot of the country churches around here. Most have now evolved into wild game suppers, but coon is still popular. Coon with sweet potatoes is one you see a lot.

My uncle in Tennessee used to eat them every year when I was young. They would catch one then feed it corn for a couple weeks before slaughtering it.

Drive a few hundred miles in any direction, and the experience changes dramatically.

When I lived in TN, our local kennel club-Tri-State Trail and Tree Dog Association- had a lot of meetings with food served. One was BBQ coon, I missed it, but was told the coon ran out before the chicken. I do not know the details.

Folks...My grandad was a big coon hunter back when I was young..40-45+ years ago. I think he was even the president of the Kentucky Coonhunter's Assn, way back whenever.My grandma cooked coons pretty regularly during season. All I can remember is that she cooked it like a roast, with vegetables. I remember eating it and had no complaints.I tried very hard to find her recipe, but my aunt told me it was probably just in her head, nothing written down.Let that be a reminder to us to leave our legacy in writing for future eggers....never know when a grandkid or great might start looking for one of our brisket recipes...."The Way I do it "!!!!!!!!Friend a t work is supposed to bring me one to experiment with...hopefully this week. I've searched and found 3 recipe/instructions that I intend to use as a guide, and go by.And yes...I'll record and post my process and results.
