Smoke escaping through the main gasket

Was cooking pizza last night. Had the egg up to 550-600 Noticed one spot (around 4 o'clock on the egg) where smoke was escaping. When I applied pressure  it stopped. I'm still on the original gasket - new in May - but I'm wondering if it's the beginning of the end. I use it most nights and weekends but have not had it over 600 a few times. How do you know when it's time for a new gasket?

Thoughts?

When the gasket no longer seals sufficiently for you to maintain low&slow temps, leaks lots of smoke or it takes forever for the BGE to shutdown after a cook-time to replace.  Sometimes it's obvious-like the gasket separates and is found hanging loose or it self-destructs during a high-heat cook.  Some dome to base fits are good enough that you can run commando with no issues-others need a gasket.  FWIW-

Mine leaks a bit in a spot where I direct the temp probes through. I believe it's just from the extra bit of compression.

my gaskets literally burnt off years ago, when i bought my third egg i actually removed the new gaskets
:D i dont care if it leaks smoke, just keep cooking and if it becomes a problem for you down the road get a rutland from rrp

Mine will leak when it gets to 600 or higher if it hasn't been used for a while, but the next it doesn't. It should be fine unless it is leaking in a lot of spots and like said above it won't shut down all the way. I have had mine for almost 9 months it seems fine.

It's taken over 2 years for mine to go but I wasn't doing any high temp stuff. Ordered my new Rutland from @RPP. Just waiting for a nice weather day to put it on.

Mine occasionally leaks smoke on one side, most noticeable when trying to drop temps / snuff down a fire.  It's done that for a few years, but I have no troubles maintaining low smoking temps or shutting down.  So, if it's not causing you cooking problems, probably not a real issue beyond cosmetic.
