Sometime you just have to.............

Channel your inner child. Oldest said he said we needed something besides meat, can't be my child. LOL. I asked well then what would you like. He replied a grilled cheese sandwich. So fired up the large, prepped the bread, sliced the cheese, preheated the cast iron skillet and tossed on some dogs. Hot dogs don't contain real meat so the qualify in my book. Simple grilled cheese with Velveeta.

And somewhere has to be the adult beverage-Light the BGE= time for an adult beverage; food on= time for an adult beverage and then as wanted/needed for the remainer of the cook.  Yup-low&slow is not liver friendly! YMMV-

Very nice!  The dog bun looks great.

Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

  • @Griffin‌ Thanks

@SmokeyPitt‌ Thanks, it sent them over the edge

I like your comment about not partaking at home while alone with the kids. It's been something I've been thinking about with our first on the way. Honestly, lots to think about. Sometimes I worry myself to death. I think I might take that as some advice.

Somewhere, a foodie just lost her wings. %-( Actually, I think it's awesome that you did that for the oldest. way to go, Dad!

@‌Griffin I was one of the "no imbibers when home alone", until I realized if I was competent to have a cocktail at a restaurant and drive home (notice I said "a" as in one), then I should be competent having one in my own home alone with my kids. I spent the first few years of my kids' lives being super anal and super stressed that I was going to do something wrong - that was just my personality. Now that I've got experience and my kids are older (9 & 11), I wish I would have relaxed and trusted myself more. I'd do it much differently now...

  • @Griffin Some don't agree with that but thanks for thinking about it. My thinking is that if something happens and you never know when that will occur, I can't be under the influence.

I agree to a point but a drink is not worth it to me. I'm a little annal when it comes to alcohol but that's just me. Not saying one is better then another and I'm sure a drink is fine but it is just not that important to me.

If  a hot dog ain't real meat then Velveeta sure as hell ain't real cheese.   =))

Not to get technical, but according to chemistry alcohol is a solution...

CI grilled cheese is simple comfort food man, looks great from here.  Someone busted out a CI pie iron at the campfire over the weekend to make grilled cheese and apple pies.....awesome stuff.  This was after a few cups of Templeton though.

I used to be in the zero tolerance kids camp.  Now, my 7 year old is the DD with the golfcart. hahahahaha

  • Thanks @Focker!! I have a cast iron, double pie iron in the camping stuff as well. After several scotches one night the neighbor and I made some press on the old Weber kettle. Next day he bought a couple for the scout troop.
