I'm thinking about changing the wings on my Big Green Egg, its a large. The slats are starting to look bad. I thought maybe something else beside wood. Any ideas?

Ipe or aluminum plate. I might have some that will work. You can take a look at it next time you're at my house.______________________________________________I love lamp..

I have Egg Mates for my Large. They are not wooden at all, more like a hard plastic.
They have Egg Shelves too:

Just sand them and restain. I like the wood.

I had the same thing going on with the standard wood on my BGE Large wings. There were some posts on this board about buying some bamboo cutting boards on eBay. I found some that turned out to be a little tight, but worked out, price was right too.

I have the plastic wings and they are real big and can be cleaned...I think they work out well.

I would use Starboard like on boats. But you may have issues with heat using that.XL, Small, Mini & Mini Max Green Egg, Shirley Fab Trailer, 6 gal and 2.5 gal Cajun Fryers, BlueStar 60" Range, 48" Lonestar Grillz Santa Maria, Alto Shaam 1200s, Gozney Dome, Gateway 55g Drum

Here is what I did. My side tables were always flimsy and didn't last 6 months. Got a 1/2 inch piece of pressure treated plywood 16X16 inch and glued a 16X16 inch ceramic tile to it. I then screwed it to the side table supports from underneath. Ive chopped on them and set all kinds of hot stuff on them. Theyve been on for 2 years and still look new.

My wooden ones got a bunch of burn and grease marks all over them and started to look pretty bad. I just went to a local home store and bought some cookie baking pans that were marginally larger than the shelves, put a couple of screws through the pans into the original wood, and all is fine. The pans clean up real easy and can handle a hot platesetter or grate no problem. They look ok too.

Thanks for the great ideas.I like the ceramic tile suggestion. Maybe the composite wood. The baking pans have a lip and would hold water, I think.I'm gonna give this some more thought,"I'm stupidest when I try to be funny"

Looking good! I sanded them. Here it is with one coat of polyurethane. I might apply a few more coats."I'm stupidest when I try to be funny"
