Depends on how much you want to cook and what. I have a 7 qt i used on my XL to cook baked beans. It sets under whatever meat i am cooking to catch some drippings and get some smoke flavor. 7 qt is a good size and you should have plenty of room for smoke and heat to come up around it.XL, WSM, Coleman Road Trip Gas GrillKansas City, Mo.

A 7 qt. is what I was thinking of, but was not sure if it would fit on my large. The main reason I want it is to cook chili.Belleville, Michigan

7 qt is a good size for a large. Plenty of room for it and you can make a nice size batch of chili. I have a 5 qt and it fits on my small (and large). The 5 qt is just a touch small for some chili recipes I have tried. I can make do usually, but I have to use less liquid and add some once it reduces.Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

You should be good. The large is what 18" across and i think my DO is maybe 12" across. I am planning on doing a brisket chili soon, when it gets a little cooler.XL, WSM, Coleman Road Trip Gas GrillKansas City, Mo.

Not to mess with your mind a little but here's another consideration. The regular DO has a flat bottom, but the camp style DO rests on 3 pointed legs which are cast into the pot. I have both, and I use my flat one in the kitchen, but prefer my legged camp style in my BGE. Reason is I like to use my PS with legs up and then the DO with it's legs lets heat circulate all around and I never have burnt food at the bottom of the DO.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

This really helps me out, I have a flat-bottomed 7qt and have been looking a 6qt with legs for some camp cooking. Great to see that it can also be used on the grill.Kamado Joe Big Joe, Classic & Junior -
Mine is a 5 quart and fits well on my large. Can also have other stuff on the grill at the sametime. This was a 5lb pork roast...

Might as well add to this thread……..Considering getting a DO since I saw that peach cobbler thread, but can someone tell me the advantages of a DO?Also, I have an XL and a MBGE. Any ideas on what size I should get? And where do you get the one with the feet?

I have an XL/M combination and use a 5 qt double dutch Lodge set. It has the 5 qt. bottom and a top that can be flipped over and used as a skillet. Both sections have the loop handles and fit nicely on the Medium. Since I generally use it for sides, it is large enough for my requirements. If they made a 7 qt in the same style I would consider buying one. Walmart usually has the 5 qt at a nice price with free shipping to your local store.
