Realistically, how many hours will a LBGE keep its temp at 250 for?

With a full load of Rockwood or Ozark Oak.... 20 to 24 hours should be doable pretty easily

I just did a 22 hour cook and had lump left over. Although it was 225 this should give you a good idea.Belleville, Michigan

I was only able to get around 14 hrs if I fill up to the top of the firebox. But, if you fill it up half way up the fire ring almost touching the plate setter, you should see 22+ hour results.

I got 23 hours recently and had a little lump left over. Most of the cook was 250 dome, but near the end I bumped it to 300.LBGE, Marietta, GA

Every cook/ fire is different. I did an 8 pound pork butt using RO once and it went for 18 hours. I didn't even use half the lump.NW IOWA

Is Rockwood the BGE branded lump?

It's all I've got at the moment and can't get Rockwood in UK. Is the BGE not very good (as a newbie this is only the second bag of lump I've used).?henapple said:No -
BGE is fine. General consensus is that Rockwood and Ozark Oak are more neutral on flavor, so you have more control on the amount of smoke. It is also much more expensive than most other charcoals (paying the premium for the BGE label).
That being said, if BGE is all you can get, then that's what you're going to end up using, regardless of what all of us think.LBGE

I once did an 18 BR butt cook with wicked good. Could probably have gone at least twice that. Tons of lump left. Pic is on here somewhere, but I can't find it.
I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Last Labor day I did a 15 LB brisket. It was on for 24 hours at 225. I took it off, FTC, and then did smoked Mac and Cheese for 3 hours. When I shut the LBGE down after 27 hours, I still had a fair amount of Rockwood in the bottom. I had filled the lump to the top of the fire ring.

30 pounds of pork for 29 hours at 225, with enough lump left to smoke a turkey breast.
