Hard to find good lump in ABQ

Went to ace they had cowboy and it has less than desirable reviews. Bought some RO at Home Depot and it seems to work ok but when you light it it smells BAD for 20 or 30 min. I'm tired of paying $30 almost for a bag of BGE lump. I really need to break down and make an order from firecraft but I have to make it worthwhile or shipping would be outrageous. I envy my dad where he can get OO FOR 5-6 bucks a bag

How do you light your egg?  I use RO exclusively and don't have to wait that long to cook.  I use a weed torch to light.  Usually after I am done giving it hell, the temp is already up to around 200° or so.

I do want to try OO and Rockwood, but no one carries it in my area.

I just use weber wax cubes to light it. It's not so much taking long to get to temp. It's the nasty smell I get for a long time after lit. And it pops and crackles worse than any lump I've used which I don't like being the egg is on a wood deck Did a stir fry tonight and put the wok on about 30 after lit after 10 min was getting bad smoke coming from the lump again

Several different brands available in Colorado Springs. I use Hasty Bake which is OO.
  • Where do you get it?

Sounds to me like the bag you bought came from a foreign country - not USA - there should be a country of origin printed clearly on the bag somewhere. I use RO almost 100% and never have that issue you describe except for some crap from Paraguay which I threw away!

It was the red bag with Made in the USA stamped on it. I have heard that RO is sometimes made in other countries so i made sure is was USA

Revolver when i do use BGE it has much larger pieces that any bag of RO ive ever had . This one was almot all medium to small pieces

Maybe i just got a bad bag ?

You can get Rockwood at The Grill Medic in Mooresville (about an hour SW of Thomasville, NC.)
